Recording Noise.

When I record a track in Audition,
and I un-arm the first one and arm the second one,
I hit record and it automatically plays the first track
while I'm recording so I can keep time, which is what I need.

But, when I'm done recording my second track, and I play them,
it adds all of this unneeded noise and stuff, making it louder,
and there are no effects on or anything.

Now, I thought it was just because the mic was picking up
the song coming through the speakers while I was recording,
so I plugged in headphones to my computer so the sound
wouldn't play through the speakers, but it still did what it was doing before.

When I mute the first track though, it records it fine,
but I'm always off time because I can't hear it.

Sooo, I can't add extra tracks
because when it plays the first track for me to keep in time,
it adds all of this noise and extra volume.

Gahh, I need help >.<

The only thing I can think of is you may have your gear wired to send the output of the soundcard back through the system. If so, you'll need to reroute your signals.

How would I go about doing that?

If the souncard output is going back through the same mixer you have plugged into the card's inputs, that can send a feedback loop through it, creating the problem you describe. You'll need to plug the card's outputs into a separate amp.

What kind of soundcard?

Creative cards have a "what u hear" function which will result in exactly what you speak of. If so, uncheck it and select the input needed (line in, mic etc..).

If that's not the case, let us know what your using.

We're having a devil of a time trying to fix Regret's problem on another forum.

As far as I know, he's using a stock sound card and a PC mic, into Audition...about as simple as it gets for recording. It's a Realtek integrated sound card.

The problem also occurs in Audacity, so I don't think that its a setting in the recording software.

Seems like it would have to be a card issue then, as that's the only thing left. Check any settable settings, and reinstall the driver I guess.

So is this the control panel you are using?

h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/...cname=c00377375

I really do believe it's going to be something similar to the creative setup.

Please try going to the realtek control panel, selecting mixer and verify that your recording input is not set to "Stereo Mix". Make sure it's set for mic/line in. The fact that when you mute the first track and it works fine is also pointing that direction. When muted, it's not part of the stereo mix.

If you are referring to Start>Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio>Sound Recording>Volume

Then yeah, it says Stereo Mix, but I can't adjust the volume or anything.

Or are you talking about something else >.<
I'm sorry, but yeahh. I have no idea what any of this is, I'm really kinda new to this.

It's on Line/Mic In,

and Stereo Mix has a volume set-up here,
should I mute it or something? o.O

What it's doing.

You can hear when the second track comes in because it gets louder. Much louder, you can't even hear the second guitar. >.>

Yes, absolutely mute Stereo Mix if you're talking about the recording control panel! Mic/Line in should be the only device that you record from.

If you record from both mic/line in AND Stereo Mix, then you'll get the exact problem that youre describing.

Let your mixing software do the mixing, not Windows.

Funny, in my Windows recording mixer, I can only select one input at a time.

I believe if set to line in/mic in you should be setup correctly. The stereo mix would indeed cause said problem but it should not be active as you are setup now. Hmmmm indeed. Wish I could see your PC.

And yeah, it's not windows recording mixer, but the realtek control panel from the link above. You may check your windows setups just to be sure there is not something conflicting.

Just a thought here, but even with the Realtek he will still have the what you hear option, or at least should as it is a windows thing as well on some machines.

first thing i would try is the latency, but to me it sounds like you have your main mix to high, try lowering the main output fadder so it doesnt peak

Exactly noize, there is a "stereo mix" under the realtek control panel and "what u hear" under the windows control panel. Something to eouble check for sure.

Alright, I think we're going to need screenshots in order to proceed. Something just isn't adding up here.

Actually...for some reason it just up and quit doing what it was doing before.

But now, I have a new problem.

When I record it sounds all...mulky, wet, and well, like I'm in a hole.

Kind of like when you use "Noise Removal" slightly.

That's what it sounds like. >.<

If a sound clip is needed, I'd be glad to send one.
