Help with USB mic

Hey all...I'm new here and I have a question. I am using Sony Acid and up until this point I haven't had any trouble. Starting a few nights ago it started locking up on me and would not play after recording or sampling. Also, I just go a USB mic MXL USB 006 and whenever I plug it in I can't get any sound. It appears to be recording, but I am unable to play back any sound, even when I unplug the USB cable and attempt a playback. Anyone have any suggetions? I downloaded an upgrade for Acid last night but that didn't help. Thanks~~Amy
