Yes, you can hook up the 502 as it stands right now, though you will only be out-putting in stereo. You would need a bigger (more expensive)
behringer or other mixer, like the 1202 (chip in and get this, and keep the 502 for personal mixes, like a monitor control). The behringer xenyx mixers (the bigger ones) have usb connectivity; check out behringer's website for details.
As far as the mac goes, there's probably a
small 1/8'' port for in-putting a signal from your mixer. Get an adapter cable that goes from the mixer (line out, or main out) to the computer.Read the manual; I'm sure it mentions this in there.
The best thing to do first, I think, is to rehearse together, miked up and ready to go. You'll have to experiment; our group, with drums
(miked up), acoustic guitars (ditto), an electric guitar (direct in through a boss recorder processor), and keys (direct-in) goes through a 24 channel behringer 2442A mixer. We output in two-channel stereo to a Dell computer with a 0404
E-mu soundcard. In other words, about 18 separate signals (including out board reverb) are mixed down in the 2442A and out-putted in stereo to the recorder.
Now, it sounds great. Six months ago, it didn't sound great, but through experimentation, and listening to the recordings, we figured out what worked best: the levels, where to pan the instruments, the amount of reverb for vocals, etc.
Remember, this is a stereo mix; at home when recording (same set-up, though just me and two
smaller behringer mixers, the UB 1202 and Xenyx
802 connected for more versatile in-putting), I'm
laying down one track at a time. The 0404 will
only input 4 channels at a time, but that's fine (for now) with me.
So: the old adage applies, sort of--arrange, rehearse, record. You wil be arranging,
rehearsing, and recording at about the same time.
If this has been useful, good. Be sure to write back here with more information if things are not working, ot this was unclear.
