I have a Yamaha Powered Mixer EMX88s, and PC 1.6 GHZ 500 Megs of Ram, Sound Blaster Live Drive.
Can I hook the powered mixer to the PC? Will it work as a mixer or would it cause problems?
Thanks Arron

Jan 03, 2003 12:45 pm You could... it wouldn't be the best though.
Just make sure you use a line out, and not a speaker out to go into the sound card.
Let me repeat... MAKE SURE YOU USE A LINE OUT, AND NOT A SPEAKER OUT TO GO INTO THE SOUND CARD.
Using a speaker out will cause big problems.

Jan 03, 2003 01:26 pm With that type of set up (similar to mine) you can record as many tracks as you have "ins" on the mixer, but it comes out as 1 track on your pc. Thats good for recording practice stuff. but if you want to record your band, so that each thing gets its own track on the recording (this is best) then everyone has to do thier thing 1 at a time, as you can only record 1 track at a time on your pc.
and dont use the speaker out! nooneshero is right. youll fry your card quick. use your line out, from the mixer to line in on your sound card and change the recording on your pc from mic to line.
Jan 03, 2003 01:31 pm Well, with some clever use of panning and track assigning you can have it record as two seperate tracks. Just use left and right panned hard and you have two different tracks.

Jan 03, 2003 02:14 pm dude, that was very poetic :-)
Jan 03, 2003 02:35 pm I'll say... I really ought to start going through those lyrics you sent me.
Jan 03, 2003 03:42 pm Back on topic, however, yes, you can hook it up, but as stated, use the line outs, not the powered outs and run it into your sound card. You will probably need some adapters for the cables, tho with the Live Drive maybe not.
I think using the Live you will be limited to recording two tracks at a time (left and right) or one stereo set.
What program are you planning to use to record? As a recall Cubasis comes with the Live...or so sort of multitracking app does anyway...
Jan 03, 2003 09:56 pm Thanks for all the advice. I really don't know what I am doing, but the powered mixer doubles as a great stereo. Is there a way to buy a tape deck and then hook it up to the mixer? The mixer has a record out option, so I know you can hook up a tape deck "Idiot" I talk to my self a lot don't let it scare you. That feature would only allow me to record a live setting, with no mix down? I'm I correct? Or is there a way to hook up a recorder to the mixer record out and then use the mixer to mix it? I don't think that can happen, but if I am mistaken please tell me how. Or if it is the best way to go, or should I buy a new sound card and just use my PC?
Thanks for all the advice

This is awesome, and very true
Jan 04, 2003 07:07 am I would use the PC myself, but, as far as the tape deck goes, if it is just a stereo tape deck, then no, you couldn't mix down at all.
Could you share the mmake and model of the mixer and tape deck in question?
Also, depending on the complexity of the music you are trying to record, the Live may be enough to get you by for a while...maybe...WOW, did I say that? I never encourage the use of SoundDisasters...argh...now I am talking to myself too...
