"Technical assistance" with new equipment, from whom?

Hi:

I've read reviews in the past, or forum messages where tech assistance was either praised or condemned. I learned that the online stores don't offer tech help. Who is it that offers tech help when you have new equipment? Does this "tech help" actually come from the manufacturer which can vary greatly, enough that I read the extremes in the reviews. (?) Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sincerely, Winfred

PS I know that with my Dell computer I have telephone tech help "7/24" or seven days a week and twenty-four hours a day.

Kinda depends on the manufacturer, many companies hire outside resources to deal with tech support, so do it in house. Also, depending how you buy your product, sometimes if you buy it wholesale or discount you don't get any with it. You know support for your Dell because it is good and they very much promote it. If you are not told in big, bold letters what support it is, it is probably 9 to 5 by calling some guy that doesn't speak your language as his primary language and is in a time zone that doesn't jive with yours.

These reason are what makes these types of communities work, gathering together to support each other.

So what piece of gear is it you need tech help with. If we can't provide it, we can sure find someone for you that can. Or die trying.

And none of us are dead yet, so that is a good sign, I think.

Dear Noize2u:

Thanks for your reply. I guess it's future tense with my posting. I was only asking about "tech help" and its meaning in general in the sound equipment world. With my computer it is offered for a period of time and if more time is needed one purchases tech help coverage. I just wasn't sure about what it meant as I read various forum discussions and reviews where tech help was praised or complained about and it seemed specific to equipment. I wasn't sure what the tech help sources are. I just learned that the online sound recording equipment stores do not offer tech help; so I'm assuming that it comes from manufactures only and that sometimes it can only be minimal or basically a symbolic form of tech help if one can only access a techy in a distant time zone and who does not have a good grasp of the english language. Did you see my posting on Motu, Digidesign 001, or M-Box? It is near this one. I would be interested in any feedback from you. You have a sense of humor too with your forum name. Most Sincerely, Winfred
