my tascam DP-01 is stuck on one song

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Tascam dp-01 digital recorder. I did something wrong in copying or saving this one particular song of many stored on the machine. Later, when I tried to load it, it got stuck in the "reading song " mode. It won't finish reading this song and I can neither finish loading the song, or erase it. I turn off the recorder, unplug it. Still, when I turn it back on it automatically starts reading this one problem song, and gets stuck again. At this point I can't access any of the rest of my material. Does the hard drive need to be serviced? How can I get passed this song that is blocking up my recorder? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm a novice at home recording. -Rob

I will have to have a look on Tascams sight but it sounds as if the system is hung. It is very odd that it wont reboot cleanly after a complete power down and even unplugging the unit. Have you tried leaving it unplugged say overnight or anything yet.

Generally a hard drive would not cause that kind of problem. It would release on shutting down and rebooting the system.

I would think there must be a system reset you can do that would unlock whatever is stuck. IT generally requires holding a certain combination of buttons down while powering the unit up. There might be something on it in the manual. I will try and have a look at the manual on Tascams sight tomorrow and see if I see something along that line.

And welcome to HRC by the way.

Thanks for the fast response to my tascam problem. I've tried leaving the system off overnight but it still gets stuck when powering back up. I think this is because it automatically tries to read the last song, which unfortunately is now always this song that seems to be possessed by the devil. All kidding aside this is a major problem as I'm afraid of losing like 20 songs and hours upon hours of work.

Alright, I have scoured the manual and don't see anything about a system reset in there at all even under the trouble shooting. There might be something in the written manual that is not in the pdf manual, but I doubt it. It might be either in the very beginning or near the end. Otherwise I'm afraid the only alternative is to deal with Tascam's Tech support. As I stated, most digital work stations have some kind of system reset that is initiated when you power the thing up, but I can't find it in the pdf of the manual.

I guess I hadn't notice your last response until just now as I was in the middle of writing the last response and had to get up and do a few tings and come back and finish.

I am wondering if there is some kind of initialization that the factory can walk you through that will reset it to open to a blank song. That way you wont have to loose any of the work by formating the disk.

Also, I wonder if it can boot into say the PC loading mode if you hook up a USB cable and try it that way?

I'll keep thinking but as I stated above, I think this is going to require a call to Tascam tech. I honestly haven't seen enough of this unit to have much more help for you.
