After AT&T bought SBC our phone service has gone in the crapper... we can't even use an answering machine anymore... there's so much noise it hangs up.

We know what the problem is... their techs don't know what they;re doing and crossing everyones lines so we're getting someones dialtone mixed with our signal... It's atleast easier than trying to explain to them the moisture problem we were having earlier... we went through three techs on that one...

right now if on the phone: there was a pin drop...and someone stepped on it and while screaming was hit by a truck causing it to veer into a building, dumping a load of bricks on a huge group of cats...we might hear it...

This is the third service problem we've had this winter and now they're taking there sweet *** time fixing things... called this last one in on friday and they "might" send a guy out on wednsday.

Yep, I'm just waiting for my Alarm company to come up with a control box that will work with the new digital systems such as my cable company can supply, for half of what I pay now without long distance. And they supply long distance at now extra charge.

Anyway, then I'll switch away from that nasty Quest crap.

Oh yea, ATT and the ding dongs are a real collection of hacks. I used to have to supervise their repairs when I was part of IBM's industrial communications group. They sent one moron out with a freq sensitive vm to gather readings and the only thing he gained from the exersize was that he assumed something had to be wrong as the needle was in the 'red' area of the meter. One of my techs finaly fried one of their ckt boards with direct 110 that was causing loss of communications after having the hacks out on site 6 or 7 times. They recognized the board as bad once it was completely chared.

Their residential service is even worse. I did a blind hook up prior to moving into my current home. Big OoooPs! Picked up the phone to the sound of massive static. Used a cell to call the problem in. After a week called back to check status on the call. They did their remote test and determined that the problem was in the house. (that is another long story of incompetance) They were waiting for me to call back as they could not get anything but a constant busy on the line. Daaaaaa! A direct short or short on the ring side to ground of the ancient twisted pair will do that every time! Someone had run down the pedistal in the neighbors yard and the whole mess was one big short.

I went to comcast for broadband phone. Not a problem since. Much cheaper as well.

The pedistal is still out there with my garbage bag over it now eight years later.

I cringe everytime I hear the name.

Hey, brother, have you tried any of the cable phone services? We use WOW, bundled in with all the other crap, and not only is it WAY cheaper than SBC/AT&T, if haven't had a bit of problems with the service.
Not trying to sound like a salesman, or anything, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Yep, that was what I was saying above. I have a couple friends who are now on the local cable system with their phone and the whole nine. They say it works great and haven't had a lick of trouble yet.

Yeah, my family is spread out all over the country, so the unlimited long distance is hard to beat.

I would drop residential phone service completely but we are literally less than 100 yards out of the cable service area...

But they did manage to send someone out to fix it today... twice... :)
