About every three months I hit up this forum with some new material to critique. I have been mixing hip hop on and off for about 2 years and I am always looking for advice, tips, tricks or any constructive criticism that I can learn from. I know I have just scratched the surface of what mixing entails so keep that in mind.
I have two samples of tracks that I would like you to listen to. They feature four different artists with four different styles (one of them is myself). You can find the sample tracks at:

"Hot Sample 1"
"Hot Sample 2"
Download the tracks because the streaming is horrible!
Warning: There is explicit lyrics so don't listen if this offends you!
I appreciate any input and look forward to hearing what you think...

Jan 11, 2007 02:15 pm Not passing this over, just at work and don't want to taint your mix with my 1" drivers that are built into my monitor. Will check it tonight.

Jan 11, 2007 03:16 pm mix sounds pretty good to me. Maybe the shakers are a bit loud in sample 2 and vocals could come up a bit, thin the eq a bit in sample 1.
but everything pretty much has it's own space which is good.
I won't comment on content since you didn't ask.

Jan 11, 2007 03:29 pm hey, I appreciate the input. Good to have a fresh set of ears to listen. I understand those lyrics may not be everyones cup of tea but we have fun with what we do. I am the one with the deep voice on sample 1.

Jan 11, 2007 03:45 pm ha ha, I've been listening to hip hop since the late 80s, i've heard it all, so I'm not too worried about it.
I was going to make more of a sweeping generalization about hip hop coming out of the central valley these days.
Anyways, don't pay me no attention, no one else seems to.

Jan 11, 2007 06:30 pm Whos that coolo guy? Did he just say somethin? :-)
I liked the piano in 1, kind of deep sounding as in thick. I gotta agree on the shaker bit in 2 it is a bit overwhelming. Agree on everything seeming to have its own place as well. Vocals are not bad in 2 but with coolo's statement they drift a little and could use a little help staying stable level wise.
Other then that, indeed nicely done.
