If your mixer has direct outs on mic channels, you can record the (dry) signal from there, but I would recommend adding a compressor in between the signal path from direct out to your recorder...

What kind of mixer do you have? does it have more outs than just the main outs? If it does then assign that signal to come out the main out and a sub-group, then plug the sub-group into the deck.

yes, you could...assuming the mixer in question has an available aux loop.

He has the 602A, and that unit has one Aux. out. So yes just send the track you want to record out the Aux. send and you will record only that output.

Just to clarify... (because I own a Behringer MX602A myself, and it does not have a group facility)

Connect the AUX output (just above Line Input 5/6) on your Mixer into the input of your soundcard. (You may need a 1/4" Jack to 1/8" Jack (mini jack) converter for this depending on your sound card)

Now, whenever you want to send a specific channel (eg: Channel 1) to your computer's input, you simply turn that channel's (Channel 1's) AUX send (Red knob) to the right.
