hello everyone. am new to this site and am hoping for answers. i have been combing the web to find a way to monitor the output of my usb microphone (samson q1u). i have a creative soundcard. i have written samson and they have responded that it is a function of the software of my computer. i presently only use the software that came with my soundcard, but am willing to purchase another, as long as i know that i can monitor the sound from my usb mic (mainly for recording and karaoke). i hope i can have suggestions/input as to what to do.

thank you very much!

uhm, it would help if we knew what software your using to record. but my guess is open it, and find some sort of audio options. Then just find what your software is using as its output and change that to your computer speakers...

i know thats pretty vague but, i dont realy know much hah.

thanks melty. actually, i have tried configuring it using the surround mixer, creative wave studio and the windows recorder. they record fine, but without being able to monitor my voice. from other sources, they say that this is because the mic does not pass through the sound card (since it's usb). i am trying to look for a software that will allow me to monitor my voice while recording/or monitoring usb mic input in general. i hope that exists. thanks!

Welcome to HRC first off.

I know what the problem is and I do believe there is a way around it. But as you stated it may take a recording software upgrade. Let me do a little tinkering here tomorrow and I'll try and find an option that might work out for you.

What you need is a software recording app that will allow you to configure for input monitoring and still route the signal to the SB card.

OK ed, I think some of this might help get you sorted out. First off go here, www.samsontech.com/produc...cfm?prodID=1879 And download the little driver applet that will install a WDM and ASIO driver for the Q1. This will give you a couple of other tools to use with it as well and should allow the WDM driver that will share with the SB card.

What software are you recording with and how are you monitoring the playback and input? This will help get you pointed in the right direction and let me know how to get you set to hear what you are recording.

hello again noize2u. i have installed it, and actually, am able to record using the smart recorder provided by creative. however, i am unable to monitor usb audio input. i think it is a limitation of the software. it allows regular microphone monitoring, but not usb microphone. any ideas? thanks for all the help.

p.s. the mic was bought mainly for online karaoke (i.e. singshot.com) and for home recordings. i would really like to be able to monitor usb mic input :)

i am still hoping for suggestions for software that allow monitoring of usb mic input. preferably with a "trial version" so i can check it out prior to purchasing.

thanks!

i was able to install it, but the mixer does not recognize the samson mic. it does have input options for my logitech fusion mic, SB live 24 mic, usb audio, and onboard audio. it also has options for asio mic/line in L and asio mic/line in R. but it does not recognize the samson usb mic. i did install the asio drivers for the mic. could the asio inputs be the one for the samson mic? i am confused...

i tried activating the asio inputs but could not get a sound out of the mic...

Have you tried contacting Samsons technical support to see if maybe there is a limitation in the driver they have for it. I don't see that it would limit its ability to be monitored, if it can be recorded it should be able to be monitored as well.

yes i have in the past. but they said it is probably the software for mixers rather than the mic itself. im still having no luck. thanks for the effort. i am still hoping for a breakthrough :)

When I get a little extra time I'll look for a couple other freeware apps that you can try and see if they will work.

Otherwise you can go to www.cakewalk.com and download a free demo of one of their software apps and give it a shot.

just as a sidenote, i tried installing sony sound forge 8. it recognizes the mic, and when i try recording, i can see the input levels rise on the screen. monitor levels is checked, but no sound is actually heard from the speakers/headphones. i checked the manual, and it did not mention actually being able to hear what is being monitored. one can see the levels, but i guess hearing it is a step further...???

What are the headphones plugged into? It would help us to know your set up a little bit.
