Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices. Then click on the Audio tab. Then under Sound Playback, select your Firepod and click OK or Apply. That should route all Windows audio through the Firepod.

ok so i found out... when my firepod is OFF the list of things i can assign my sound playback to is just one thing, my laptops sound card. When i turn on my firepod ON 5 new things get added to that list:
Bco lineout #0
Bco lineout #2
Bco lineout #3
Bco lineout #4
Bco spifout

now ive change it to each on of those and tried all the outputs on the Firepod and i couldn't get any sound from my computer to my monitors.

its weird because even when i change my sound option so its not going to my computer sound card, i can still hear sound through my computer speakers.... this is aggravating.

i used to have a firepod.

make the firepod go into the computer
and the external HD run to the computer.

i tried what you were doing and it never worked out.

also make sure when u plug it in (the firepod)
the the sound settings are set for the firepod.

in my experiance. the firepod was hella buggy.
if all that dosnt work. uninstall d rivers,
then re insall the drivers from Presonus website.

Yep, you cannot run the Firepod as the slave in a chain such as that. There are interfaces that will run that way but not the Firepod.

If I'm not mistaken the Firepod has a slave firewire port on the back of it. So you could try running the firewire hard drive from the Firepod.

ok so now... i have my firepod connected straight to my computer, and my external hardrive plugged into the 2nd firewire port on my firepod.
i can find the hard drive on my computer when its hooked up through the firepod so thats good.
Bu heres what I've found out. To have music play through my monitors hooked to my firepod, the music file (mp3,wav. ect) has to be on my Laptop's hard drive, if its on the external hard drive, i just plays through my laptop speakers no matter what i have my windows settings to.
if the music file IS on my laptops hard drive i have hear it through my monitors but at a VERY low volume level..basically inaudible.
and i cant figure out how to raise the volume of it to something thats worth anything...

any other idea's guys?

Now that is just plain weird! I can play mp3's through any of my audio interface's and from any hard drive on my network here. And from external drives or sticks. That has to be a windows config problem really. If windows can see the drive then the mp3 player should play the mp3 through whatever the default sound device is, no matter where the drive is hooked up to.

I would go into the windows sound control panel and double check all your settings and make sure the wav level is turned up as well as the others for playback. Then make sure the windows sound control panel is using the firepod as the default device for playback as well.

Judging from what we are discussing in the other thread as well I would say the thing has some issues in its internal workings as well as with its drivers.

Yeah, any time you mess with driver settings or sound settings, especially with USB/Firewire gear, it's a good idea to set, restart, then test!
