ACPI response

I was reading that rticle that was posted in the tips section about disabling ACPI. One of the suggestions I got from SONAR tech support was to disable this and they sent me a list of how to do it that I don't think includes flashing the vios. If you want, I can dig up the email and post it here if ya want me to, or I can email to you and you can see if its worth putting up. I haven't done it yet because it seems like every change I make to my computer has some type of adverse affect, and I am not sure what those effects might be. If anyone knows for sure that its fairly harmless disabling this, I'd appreciate it.

Disabling ACPI is different in different PC's, it totally depends on your motherboard, each is different, and some don't even give you the ability to disable it (like mine...Grrrrr) unless you can write a BIOS hack, which I strongly encourage everyone NOT to do...

Also, quite often you will need to reinstall the OS after disabling or enabling ACPI...

Ya know, when it come's to the bios I am scared to mess with it. I have the update for mine which would allow a faster processor and more RAM to be installed but I am affraid to do it because if I fail, I am S.O.L.

Dude, you are just talking about a simple flash...that's no prob, we can do that! What I suggested nobody do is to write a flash hack to turn on the ACPI toggle, most BIOS chips HAVE the ability to toggle, they just don't display it in their menu, if you know someone that can write hacks (bioscentral.com folks, etc) they can re-write a flash to display the toggle...but ya didn't here that from me!

Noize if you just wanna flash the BIOS, let me know, I did MANY of those when I worked at the ol' Computer Renaissance...matter of fact Ijust flashed my motherboard last night....right before installing Windows XP in my studio...

Ya, I know it is easy, you have made that clear B4, I am just petrified of making the wrong click and torching the bios chip.

Hey peeps! I'm back! As for the ACPI deal, you shouldn't have to mess with the BIOS. The only time you should have to do that is if you want a stanard PC ACPI so you can add your devices and assign them their IRQ's and resources manually. Which I don't suggest on doing on less it is absolutely necessary. For instance, I know people that can't even boot their PC after messing with that. I am not saying it can't be done because sometimes it's unavoidable. But those times are rare. There is usually a better way. The article I wrote involving changing the ACPI was specifically meant for adding a second CPU to your PC. What you are talking about is different. Go ahead and send me the email they sent you, tell me the problems your haveing, and I will give you my opinion on what you should do if you like. As far as flashing the BIOS, it's a piece of cake, but you should definitley have your stuff backed up because there is a chance you can mess it up and won't be able to boot to the c: drive. Trust me I know first hand.

Glad to see you made it Mark, and shall I say. Welcome to the new community.
See, if anyone can mess it up I can. And you bet your bippy I will back it up B4 I flash the bios. I have had total system wipe B4, and lost a lot of data. dB can attest to my crying for day's after that.

In the last 12 months, I can see why Noize is getting gun-shy...he hasn't really had the best of luck with his PCs...he has come across some of the most obscure problems and fixes. Just ain't been a good year for technology in Noize's place...seems like it's getting better though.

Yes, and with the some odd fixes as they may have been. The box carrie's on, though it is time for a major turn around. The biggest problem I have is the fact that in oreder for me to be able to help some folk's who come here, it is important to have the malor software used installed and ready to look at. Even if it is not my weapon of choice. So some of my problem's may be created by too many dead spirit's floating around in this box.
