Sorry... frustrations... blah!

Ok, if anyone remembers (dB, you ought to) that old compaq I stuck some RAM in so I could run XP... I had it running great for a while... well back when I had that virus scare a couple weeks ago, it got infected.

I used that disk dB had me download a while back to wipe out the hard drive completely. Now when I try to re-install XP I get an error message:

"Non system disk or disk error."

I've tried re-booting and re-reformatting.

Now what?

have you used that disk before? I don't recall which one I had you download...did you format the disk (assuming it is a floppy) as a system disk so it has the boot files on it?

I've used the disk 6 times before... and it's worked fine.

The problem is in the XP CD... for some reason it's not working.

you need to go intoyour BIOS to make your CDROM boot before your harddisk

...or floppy... what ever the disk may be :)

Your PC should asy something like "press F1 to enter setup" or something like that right when it first starts to post. whatever key it says is the one you press to get into BIOS.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg!

I didn't see anything on any screen about pressing F1 to enter setup. I know what you're talking about though, because I see it on my Dell all the time.

It is trying to read the CD drive however... the light goes on and I hear it whirr... then I get the error.

Help!
