I've got a little handheld video camera, with the 3 RCA outputs (video, left and right audio) and I want to be able to take video and put it on my laptop, and either use the audio from the camera, or have the option to use other audio (for example, one of my band's songs). It would also be cool if the software had some cool effects to play around with. I'm guessing it would have to be some kind of external unit that connects via USB.
Can anyone suggest anything?

Dec 22, 2006 01:13 pm I've been playing with MS movie maker, that comes with windows xp. pretty basic I figure, but i'm not doing much.
it lets you add a audio track along with your video, and drop the volume from the video itself.
then mix it all down together in a wmv or whatever.
There's effects in there, and transitions, so you can do basic stuff, and some titles.

Dec 22, 2006 01:14 pm My camera has a firewire port, that lets you capture your videos into a laptop, using movie maker.
sucks that it doesn't do it quick-like but better than not at all.
Dec 22, 2006 01:16 pm Neither my laptop nor my camera has a firewire port. :(

Dec 22, 2006 01:18 pm crap, then you may have to do the analog -> snappy thing. some sort of video capture device, i guess.
I haven't played with those, so I'm not much help there.
Hopefully Movie maker will help out though.
On a side note, I just picked up a firewire cardbus card for my laptop (no firewire ports built in) for around 15$. It's working great. So if anyone needs one, I can forward the info.
Dec 22, 2006 01:20 pm Pinnacle makes loads of analog capture devices. I have a DC10 Plus and it works great. Video captures uses loads of resource power, so they are kind of a ***** to configure sometimes, but once you get it all tweaked, it's awesome.

Dec 22, 2006 02:43 pm I used movie maker, the windows update to movie maker 2 was a great leap. It's very capable for home vids.

Dec 22, 2006 05:15 pm You'll need a firewire card for the laptop and then I would suggest a Datavideo DAC100 to convert the analog signal to firewire.
... I've never actually had a Pinnacle product work...
