Software advice... polyphonic composition

Hey folks! I just recently purchased my first Mac after using a PC for 18 years, and I have to that I’m very happy with it. The only problem is that my favorite piece of music software is not made for a Mac and I can’t seem to find anything comparable to it in the Apple world.

What I do is use the “point and click” method for composing full scores using polyphonic midi tones, because I simply can’t afford all of the instruments I would need. Until now I’ve done this with Cakewalk Music Creator Pro. Basically what I end up with is a ringtone that I have created from scratch, and I then print out the music and give it to my band to perform live. I am aware that Garageband has pre-made loops but I would require something that lets me compose the music myself. My question is if anyone knows of any Mac software that can do this for me. I greatly appreciate everyone’s time. Thank you very much!

Actually, GarageBand will allow you to compose as well as loop. I do all of my (novice) drum sequencing that way. I just take a simple loop (a green MIDI loop) and either edit it or completely delete all of the notes and start from scratch. Just double-click on a loop to enter edit-mode.

Granted, this isn't the best way to compose. I don't do a lot with MIDI on my Mac, but checkout Logic Express (or Pro). I think that these might do what you want (although I have never used these programs!)
