Connecting 2 computers + 1 keyboard...is it doable?

Do you know if I can set up an iMac and a PC to receive MIDI data from 1 keyboard. The keyboard is a Yamaha S-90 which has USB MIDI, plus the 3 typical MIDI ports (in, out, & thru). Would a 2x2 MIDI interface (like a MOTU Fastlane) help solve the problem or is it just not gonna happen?

should just be able to split the MIDI signal and send the same out to both...I would think, not that I have ever done it...

i wonder if you can connect the midi out to the imac, then connect the usb midi to the PC. (or other way round)

Maybe both ports send out midi at the same time.

Seems possible.

I found this (below) on the Internet...in theory it ought to work. One company said I would need to connect and disconnect my USB cable from PC to iMac.

USB 2.0 4-PORT External Slim Mini HUB Splitter

This 4-port USB 2.0 hub connects up to four (4) USB 2.0 devices, needs no external power and keeps your USB 2.0 external products up to speed. Don't get caught without enough USB 2.0 ports, this hub keeps your external USB 2.0 devices cruising.

What you actually need is a small midi router. A midi merger has worked for this in the past but I doubt with todays interfaces it will work. And it probably wont work vial USB with a hub as the hub is going to take several incoming USB line and merge them into one USB port.

But the router will take one midi cable from your midi out of the S-90 and allow it to be split to send midi to 2 or more differant inputs for hardware such as computers or hardware synths.

In theory though as pjk stated you could use both the standard midi output port and the USB midi out and divide it up that way.
