Behringer Virtualizer with compresser?

I just picked up a virtulizer pro. I was not intending to use it for recording, just for those finikey performers that want to hear their favorite effect through the board as they record. Well loo and behold it has a compresser built in. Can you beat that? And that is my question. Has anybody used this feature of the virtulizer for compressing signal bound for recording? I am a little leary of it as it is a feature not dedicated function of the instrument.

Well, it looks like nobody has used it...I trust the brand name whole heartedly, so I guess the best you can do is try it out and then be sure to let us know what you think... :-)

Wow! I'm glad you threw that in. I was getting a complex, or another complex, ontop the complex... I got around to giving it a little test last night plugged into an insert. From all indications it seems to be fine. One thing is a little wierd. Being a digital unit you have to watch the front end A ot D converters for cliping. So it's kinda like half a compresser / limiter. hehehe. Can't really recomend it for the live recording or out of control signal thing but it does seem to do a good job of compressing and has a knee adjustment.

EDIT

Ok, last little bit on the compresser thing. The virtulizer is pretty finikey. The A/D's clip pretty easy. This is not to say it is not a good sounding piece of gear, you just have to watch your levels pretty close.

Sorry for the late reply. To much work and not enough play make Piggy a dull Boy. Anyway yes I own one and have used it. It is not the best but it does do the job. It will work just fine for most intent's and porpuse's. I use Behringer's Composer Series of copmressor's and am very happy with it, so I don't use the one in the Virtualizer often, but I have and again I will say it works just fine.

Yes, I guess I could have warned you, but it slipped my feeble mind. the thing has a tendancie to react badly when given to hot a signal. I do have to admit I have used that to an advantage a couple of time's though. I got a couple of pretty wacked out sound's from having the thing clip out at an inoportune time, and ended up with a totally new and unexpected sound, so it wasn't all bad.

No please no appologies! You have done more already than is approperiate to elaberate on! I had a band that I have been in and out with for awhile come in today er a yesterday now, and I picked an Autocom 2ch for the event. All worked out VERY well. Compression on the vocals was fabulous! And the virtulizer is coming in real handy too. The getfiddle player has an accustic with cheep pickups, poorly matched strings for the pickups and insists on scraping the strings with his pick and going direct! I love the man as a brother so onto the tape it went! I will need some wild-*** effect to cover that mess! And he'll buy it when it's done. It took me an hour to clean up his vocal track. Too many beers on the way over. Thank God for the wave editor!
