OK so heres the deal:
About a week ago i bought a new laptop to se asa recording computer with my digi002Rack and pro-tools 6.4. After installing and going through a bunch of problems with pro-tools 6.4 not working on my new laptop i finally upgraded to 7.0. which seems to working OKAY at bes ton my machine. Sept there is one HUGE problem, when i turn on my monitors there is an AWEFUL humming/buzzing niose shooting out of them. I check the wiring and its all good. I tested to see if it was the rack itself by hooking my old recording desktop up and everything worked fine through my old desktop. Then i found that if my Digi002 Rack is off and the monitors on, there is NO buzzing, but the instant i start to connect my firewire cable it starts the buzzing (even with the digi rack off)
what do you guys think this can be??

Jun 29, 2006 10:10 pm Have you checked to see if the output gain is turned all the way up in the Digi control panel? That, or the input gain could do it as well.

Jun 29, 2006 10:46 pm no, its not that. what gets me confused is that it makes this buzzing niose when my digi rack is OFF aswell. which is weird

Jun 29, 2006 11:15 pm Is it a Dell. I read a while back the the Inspiration notebooks were royally flawed to operate many of the audio multitracking programs. That was about 2 years ago. Protools may have been included in that. Despite all that, there is probably a fix. Persue typical fixes before delving into research into this. I may be wrong on this too. Good Luck !

Jun 30, 2006 12:13 am Nope, its an Hp. I honestly have no clue what it could be unless the firewire port on my computer firewire input is wrecked...which it doesnt seem to be

Jun 30, 2006 07:02 am Sounds like a maybe the Digi002 isn't grounded or something...

Jun 30, 2006 10:26 pm It could be the grounding issue as dB stated. OR is there a chance it might be conflicting with your onboard soundcard on the laptop? Dont think that is really the problem, but you never really know. If it doesnt do it with the desktop PC then it has to be something connection wise with the laptop.
