I just watched the end of Ghana vs Czech and after the commercial at the end of the game they cut back to a view of the stadium and the announcer was singing to himself...

"Whoooaa ooaa... ohhh wahoooaa... ...oh jesus! - " then the audio cut out :)

Though not in the same scope as "I've just signed legislation outlawing the Soviet Union..." people should learn at somepoint not to talk idly into a mic that they don't have control over :)

I really can't get into any sport that is not full contact. Now here is where I'll get flamed but what the hell;

Basketball - the game might as well start with 2 minutes left.

Soccer - I really don't understand what the big deal is about soccer. It's just a game and not a very good one at that.

Baseball - What's the deal with packing as much chewing tabbaco in your mouth as you possibly can? Setting a prime example for our young'ns

Hockey and football is where it is at. Well that and full contact bowling but that isn't a sport....yet.

OK, flame away :-)

If you call basketball not full contact you've obviously played in different circles than I have...

Soccar I think is a great sport, one of the best actually...not full contact for sure, but the stamina of the average soccer play is incredible...and it's probably, in my opinion one of the most fun sports to play.

I should have stated "as a spectator". I have had a lot of fun playing soccer, baseball and basketball but as far as "watching" it, I find it boring.

If you don't need a helmet then it ain't worth watching. Well except for rugby but those guys are just f'ing crazy.

Note: Don't take any of my comments seriously, I'm just messing with y'all.

lawn darts...well, too many stupid kids like myself used to throw them in the air, watch 'em come down and get hit in the noggin with 'em...there is a story my folks will never let me forget...along with the time I was an SNL fan before I understood it all, and called my grandma an "ignorant slut" cuz Chevy Chase called Jane Curtain that all the time...

Two stupid kids things I'll never be allowed to live down.

Yep, gotta admit I like watching soccer. Yes it can be compared to watching golf at times, but it is as dB stated an intense stamina driven sport. I envy those guys being able to run that much and that hard, and keep it up for as lon as they do.

Basketball, well the playoff's can catch my attention depending on who is in. Otherwise, not a big watcher on my list.

Baseball, not gonna go there! :-)

Hockey and football, yep, watch em when I know it'll be a good game.

Otherwise, the only time I turn the boob tube on is to catch glimpses of thoe good ol' boys drivin in circles. Yep, Nascar is where its at!

dB, I'm just now picturing you with a Jart stickin outa yer skull. I bet it was kinda messy!!

And the thing with your grandma, my cousin and I had a similar event. As Children and older cousin convinced us it was OK to use all the big swear words and they didnt count if ya had yer fingers crossed. So we walked into grammas kitchen swearing a blue streak. Have ya ever seen what a 6 foot 4 inch norwegian farm woman can do with a willow switch? I did that day.

Yup, helmet sports. :-)

Lawn Darts - apparently it "should" have been a helmet sport.

Soccer and basketball are both full contact sports. American football is for wimps if you want to compare to rugby. In rugby people lose respect for you if you try and juke someone or shake and bake. If your not running straight through them you're a big old sissy.

I love football, but I seen people come out of basketball games messed up. Been there myself actually, cuts and bruises and everything. And how about Mc Bride had to get 3 stitches in the face (he already has multiple metal plates in his head) from getting elbowed while trying to head the ball against Italy.

I recall seeing some serious leg breaks, punch ups and a few games here in Scotland were the police took LEGAL action and actually prosecuted some of the players for the strength of the tackles/following incidents which come down to assault !!!

Yep, its no light game over here folks (NOTE: that applies to Scotland, this is a bit different from the English game which is a bit less speedy/pacy/heavy than our leagues up here ;-)

Well, I guess I mean body contact like this which are all legal body checks

and this

oh, and this

OK, Basketball and soccer fans. Show me your clips of legal body contact (that is body contact within the rules of the game)

Disclaimer: I am a fan of all sports so don't get me wrong. For all you parents out there, I encourage you to get your kids involved in a sport whatever it may be.... well that and music. My point is that sports are healthy in more ways than just fitness. Team building etc is good for character.

I played hockey from a very yong age. And when I got into the rink it was no hold barred back then. Even the mites and bantoms checking was legal. And hemuts were still not required. It wasnt untill high school that the helmut was required. But aggresive checking was still allowed. My coach even spent entire practices doing nothing by teaching proper checking and was very firm on teaching how to take opposing players out without being incurring penalties.

I think back now and wonder just what was going through his head. Win at all costs, I guess.
