Tascam problem...

Hey, guys... I have been searching for advice for a problem I am having and you guys seem like you would have some sort of idea what to do. Anyway, here is my problem... I have a Tascam Portastudio mkII 4-track recorder. I have had it about a year. It has been a lot of fun to mess around with. Well, yesterday, I was playing back some stuff I had recorded and track one goes out. All the other tracks were playing just fine but Track one made this muffled clicking kind of sound and what I had recorded on track one was not audible at all. It didn't erase the track because when I flipped the tape (making track 1 track 4), I could see that the problem was with the reading and not the tape. Anybody have any idea? If not, do you guys know where I could take it to get someone to look at it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

long time since i used a tascam...were all the recording levels set right, and is the playback volume for that track cranked up? errmmmm dont know apart form that...?

btw, anything recording related has to go in the 'recording forum' or you'll get shouted at by the bossman - i should know!

talking smack is for general nonsense, not anything too technical!

Oh, well, sounds like you need a head cleaning or a new head all together. I dunno where ya'll live but contact your local music store. Get some achohol (the kind you DON'T want to drink) and cotton swabs and clean your heads and the pinch rollers....

If that doesn't work, bring it to your local electronics repair shop, or call your local music gear store, they should know of a qualified reapir shop if they are not themselves.

cleaning heads...hmmmm, I smell a tutorial coming on...

Trying to....resist....yelling....for...wrong....forum... :-)

Nah, talkin smack is for anything, whatever...it's the recording forum I don't want to see cluttered with junk cuz that is the one that is searchable.

Oops... Sorry, I didn't realize I didn't post it the right place... I will repost this in recording and you guys can ignore this or delete it if you want.

All the levels were up. I even heard the track a couple of times before track one went south. I will try the alcohol thing. I was thinking it might be the head too. Thanks alot for the help, guys.
