Echo Layla laptop... won't detect hardware connected to Cardbus!!

Posted on

Member Since: May 22, 2006

I just purchased a used Echo Layla 24/96 with a Cardbus adapter for connection to a Toshiba Satellite laptop (pc). I downloaded the WDM drivers from Echo's site but my comp can't find the Layla... it says the cardbus slot is functioning normally. Has anyone else ran across this problem and if so can you offer any suggestions? Thanks!!!!

I dun know anything much about computers, but you might want to try the ASIO drivers instead.

You will need device drivers, before you choose which sound drivers you'll use.

The device drivers tell windows how to talk to the hardware, while the sound drivers tell other components what language to talk to the sound interface.

Maybe you got a CD with the device? I looked through echo site, but didn't find anything right away.

So Windows wouldn't detect that there was even anything plugged into the card bus without device drivers? I've tried other cards to see if the problem was with the Layla card or the actual card slot and other devices are detected fine. Thanks again for any help.

Hmmmm, that's odd, how old is the laptop? I am not too familiar with those CardBus interfaces in particular, not being a laptop guy myself, but it isn't new technology by any means. I guess my first thought would be, since you have tried other cards in your cardbus, have you tried the Layla in another laptop to see if it works?

Have you checked Toshiba's site for the latest drivers for their CardBus?

Trying it with another laptop was an idea but we don't have access to one. I will see about drivers for the cardbus. Thanks for the info.

The laptop is less than a year old. I'm beginning to worry that the card that came with the Layla is bunk. Bought it used on ebay... probably a mistake.

Mmhmmm... especially being that the card itself is about $200.

Hey there, I had that exact same setup (The laptop with card were both stolen) and it worked flawlessly for me for the last 3 years.

When the card is inserted it should definitely detect as a new device wether the driver is loaded or not.

It honestly sounds to me like you got a bunk card, I would plug it into another laptop just to be 100% sure but I'm leaning that direction.

Also, I called echo CS and they were awesome. Since I no longer had a laptop I bought the PCI version for my desktop (works with mac or windows) for 150$. I live in Alaska and usually get hosed on shipping but they found the cheapest possible. All in all they were friendly and helpfull.

I hope you get it all figured out, I think you'll be happy if so.

Well... got the computer to recognize the hardware! Turns out the card was slightly bent in front and wasn't connecting properly... my new question is this: I'm using Vegas 1.0 (I know, I'm antiquated) and I can't get separate inputs on the Layla to separate tracks in Vegas... ie.
Bass drum mic on input 1 of the layla - track 1 in vegas
Snare on input 2 of the layla - track 2 in vegas

Is this even possible in this older version of Vegas or do I need to upgrade my recording software? If so, can I get some suggestions as to what would do what I'm looking for? Thanks everyone!

I was gonna reply, but have never used (or head of) Vegas. I'm glad you got it all figured out now though!!!

Just Curious, were you sending a stereo signal with 1/2 both going into seperate tracks so you ended up with both sounds in each? When I first got it I did not understand one bit, I do remember the day when the lightbulb came on though, it was glorious :)

did you upgrade vegas, or get a different app, the first couple vegas apps were sketchy, but showed promise, and the delivered, getting better and better every time.

I've got a really old version of Vegas... I think it's 2.0 I actually really like the program but it couldn't do the multiple inputs to individual tracks thing. I ended up getting Cool Edit Pro but I'm not overly thrilled with it. I don't like that each track has to have it's own separate fx setup... it seems like a waste of resources to have multiple instances of the same reverb plugin running on 10 tracks when they're all using the same settings, etc. Other than that it's not bad, I guess.

Doesnt it have a master section to which you can add the reverb instead?

Yeah, I used to use Cool Edit. You could just create an FX Bus to route all 10 through, very efficient. I'm not quite sure if it had FX capabilities on the master out, Audition 2 does, but I'm almost thinking that CEP did not.
