Ok heres the deal, I run pro-toosl LE 6.4 and its time to upgrade from my current computer because ti crashes and jsut cannont handle the program.
I have 700$ to spend on a computer but im completely lost. it will strictly be a recording computer with close to nothing else on it (only things like microsoft word) so yeah, what are better athlon or pentium processors for recording? I dont need much harddrive space ( i have an exturnal hardrive so a 80 gb hard drive is plent good. Ram is a big one for recording right? so as much as possible of that...
and ideas? what is your dream computer for 700$???

May 19, 2006 09:48 am Running protools le, i'm thinking you already have a sound interface, so that should not be an issue
I got a biostar MB ~100$
AMD 64 3500+ venice ~ 210$
Case you may re-use, but I'd replace Power supply ~50$
Memory 1g corsair ~80$
Harddrive 80g ~70$
Vid card, i got a evga geforce 6200 dualhead ~ 60$
I got 2 17" lcd, you may use existing monitor.
So far, that's 520$
Add a 17" lcd ~ 200$ for a decent one
that's 720.
Not so bad route, in my opinion, or course.
You'll need to purchase XP for that box, so add 140$ I guess that'd eat up the 17" lcd
So that'd be 660$ still not bad.
Just one man's opinion . . .
May 19, 2006 09:56 am yep, i think AMD falls into the 'best bang for the buck' catagory...top of the line AMD's are just is good (and some would say better) then current P4's...
also a gig of RAM is darn near necessary now, with muti-layered samplebanks and some serious plugin processing gooin' on, 512 is ok, you will push it hard.
i'd go with two hard drives if ya can aswell, it just keeps things runnin' smoother and more organized.
