Simple questions about Pro Tools..

Would you all recommend pro tools strictly for hip hop production(no vocals)? I see alot about the M powered 7 but i don't know if that's a better option over Reason, cubase, etc. as a workstation.

Obviously, i'm a new to the computer production I've been doing alot of research though and i keep getting pointed back in the Pro Tools direction. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

i'd say not really due to the heavy use of midi in the hip-hop realm....i'd go with logic, cubase or sonar before PT, the sequencing features are better there....

my 2 cents

Agree with WYD for sure. I use Sonar 5 PE and Project 5 version 2, both from Cakewalk. They will both do ReWire and come with afull load of synths and tools to use for looping and such. Project 5 is definately geared more toward easier creation and use of loops and such, but Sonar is a much larger application and does a good deal more.

If you do plan on sequencing in PT, i dont find it to be that great. I just drop everything from my MPC and track it in PT.

Pro Tools is a monster! But, so is Cubase and the Cakewalk family of programs. I think its about prefrence. They all try to boast features that others don't, but I'd say get the 1 you can afford, and work it till you run out of options, then upgrade.

I'd say the MPC is the best thing to happen to music since MIDI. Its the King Kong of hardware, and the Magic Johnson of hiphop production!
