White Album lead guitar tone...and other stuff

Okay, while I'm cooling my jets trying to solve my hardware problems, I thought I'd throw a question about effects chains and so forth and see if anyone had any ideas.

Has anyone had any success trying to duplicate guitar tones from certain songs? I'm thinking of some specific ones, such as:

- Lennon's lead guitar tone on "Everybody's Got Something To Hide" and "Yer Blues"

- The wah solo from "Haitian Divorce" by Steely Dan

- Marc Ford's solo from "Sometimes Salvation"

- Mick Taylor's slide solo from "All Down the Line"

Obviously there are some equipment-based necessities with these...but beyond that, anyone with a good idea as to what these (or others) used to get their tone that particular way? Broad question I know, but I thought it might be a fun topic to discuss.

I know personally I dont really try to look for someone elses tone. But when having done it, it is all by trial and error. You start with a good idea of what they are using and just go from there. That is the only way I know of, unless someone knows exactly what was used and you can duplicate that.

I gotta agree though, this might be a fun topic.
