Another set of Delta 44 problems

Well, I'm trying to get the recording process fired up again, and I'm running into all sorts of problems with my M-Audio Delta 44.

First off, I was having problems with the system hanging when sounds were played. I called M-Audio and they diagnosed it as an IRQ conflict...which was weird, because the computer apparently changed the sound card's IRQ from 5 to 16 BY ITSELF...and that put it on the same IRQ as the video card. Okay, no problem, took it out and reinstalled it into the second PCI slot.

Well, that didn't help a whole lot, because now it's on IRQ 17, which I've heard isn't a good place for it to be. And the performance shows. I'm using Audition, and when there are more than 2 or 3 active tracks, I can't record without it pausing for a second or two during the recording...which, of course, screws everything up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it a couple times...one time, with no software installed, ACPI gave it an IRQ of 5...then I installed the software and it assigned it back to IRQ 17.

I'm pretty much at a loss right now, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.

I dont suppose that Dell is going to let you hard assign the IRQ in the bios will it?

How many PCI slots does it have?

I don't even see an option for that in BIOS. And I looked everywhere.

There are only two PCI slots. In the "original" configuration, the bottom PCI slot had a modem, and the top one was open, which is where I put the 44.

I took the modem out and haven't put it back in. I moved the 44 to the bottom of the two slots, which is where it gets assigned IRQ 17. Putting it in the top one gives it IRQ 16.

I posted in the other thread as well. I am guessing here, but I dont think the blame lies in windows or the Delta, I am guessing it is pretty much the Dell MoBo that is causing the problems. I would try and get ahold of Dell and see if they can help you find a solution. I know several peeps here running Dell without problems arising like this one.
