Firebox problem, newbie neeeds help

I've got a presonus firebox connected to a Acer 8204 Travelmate.

It works (!), but only for a couple of minutes, then the box just deliver weird sounds. Turning the firebox on/off and restarting Cubase fixes things, but then again only for a couple of minutes.

So: Is this a problem with the firebox or my firwire connection? The problem arises in all kinds of situations (gaming, mp3s, midi, recording)

Is there anything between the firebox and the laptop?

Do you connect the firebox to a firewire external harddrive to the computer? If so don't.

Does the firewire cable connect to the computer or are you running it through a card? This could be the case, some firewire cards carry an incorrect chipset for the Presonus firewire products. Make sure the card is compatible with Texas instruments and it will be with anything Presonus. If this is the case I solved it for myself when I realized you can go from the six pin out put on the firebox to a four pin on a computer.

Call the help line, Butch, is their customer service guy, he will run you through a serious of steps to trial and error the problem out. Good guys there.

Ryan is correct. The Presonus stuff is great, but there seems to be a couple certain chips on the firewire input of PC and laptop that it does not agree with.
