Need Advice For Software: Unique Needs

Hi everyone. I want you all to know I’ve been doing a lot of research on my own for a piece of software that will fit my needs and I’m having difficulty finding anything. Before I ask for a suggestion I’ll explain what I do.

I’m not looking for recording software as much as compositional software. I’m currently using Cakewalk Music Creator Pro 24 to compose songs and print it out in sheet music form so my band can play it. My complaint is that the sounds are terrible. What I want is software that will let me compose in a piano roll view (piano keys displayed vertically on the left side and a grid to put the notes in) that has more realistic sounds. It’s okay if the good sounds aren’t standard… just as long as I can upgrade. In particular I really want something that will simulate the strumming of a guitar. Also, a fairly advanced drum sequencer is very important. Printing capabilities would be required.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even a point in the right direction. Thank you very much!!!

most of those sounds are actually produced by your soundcard... you could buy a keyboard/module with the sounds you want and have the computer play that via midi... or use softsynths... or if you have a soundblaster card you can load different soundfonts.

others are more familiar with midi than me...

Sounds to me like you're looking for a new soundfont, or a bunch of new soundfonts. Possibly a softsynth would fit the bill as well.

I'd think that in your software, it's sending your piano roll notes to some sort of soundfont or softsynth. If you can put in your own SF or SS, then MCP24 would be telling the new SF or SS to play it's sounds, not your already existing sounds.

Jack, if you can hold out one more day I will get back to you with proper bit of software. I have to check and make sure it has the capability of the software synths you are looking for.
