OMG Please Help with monitoring(no one knows)

The problem I am experiencing is an absolute disaster, i found on your website where u helped another guy with this problem so i did some copy and pasting...

Im a HipHop artist and I recently bought a Behringer Eurorack 1202FX mixer. I have Dual RCA converted to 1/4 inch jacks going from the mixers outs(rca) to the M-Audio mobilepre usb ins (1/4 in)... vice versa. I have my headphones in the headphone jack on the mixer of course.

There are three buttons on the mixer:

cd/Tape to Ctrl Room, cd/Tape to Mix, and FX to Ctrl Room.

When I have only the Tape to Ctrl Room button pressed, I can hear the instrumental in my phones only, but not the microphone.

When the Tape To Mix button is pressed i can hear the instrumental clearly and the mic clearly in my headphones, yet it records BOTH the beat and the vocals.

So my question is, how can I get this set up to where I can hear my vocals AND the instrumental in my headphones, but only record my vocals.

Same problem as the other guy except i am using a USB pre-amp/audio interface on my laptop and not the "desktop" kind. So the directions u gave him where "off" for me. The program(s) i use are Adobe Audition 1.5 and Acid Pro 4.0

PLEASE LORD HELP ME!!!!!!

Pan the beat on the mixer right, and pan the vocals on the mixer left.

hook your headphones up to the mobile pre and monitor through it....this will allow you to disconnect the outputs of the mobile pre from the mixer, and thus allow you to record just what you wanna record....

i'll give ya another way in a sec.

you could hook up your mobile pre's outputs to the "tape in" on the mixer then press IN the 'cd/tape to control room' and press OUT 'cd tape to mix', be sure that your monitors are hooked up to the control room outputs and not the main outs. the main outs should be gooin' back into your mobile pre.

here it is... it was posted by "Minkus Maz"

now before u read wut he post... i have a HP Laptop wit Windows XP and these directions are not the same for me because i have the external sound card via USB... but i am pretty sure this is how i need to do it (jes dont kno how w/ MY software)

"have the outs from your audiophile going to the tape ins of the mixer. hit the tape to ctrl room button.

now the other half of this is to get it all set up in the software. you need to have whatever recording program you're using send its playback to the AP Multichannel or Monitor/Mixer, depending on which program and drivers you're using. then you open the m-audio control panel (triangle in your system tray or just go to control panels), and go to the patchbay/router tab. set the H/W Out 1/2 to Monitor Mixer. then go back into the Monitor Mixer tab, and make sure that the H/W In 1/2, WavOut 1/2, and Master Volume sliders are up (checking stereo gang/link helps), and that none are muted. then you can adjust the levels of the WavOut or the H/W In so that the mix of what's going in and what's being played back is suitable for you. yay!

oh yeah...make sure the tape to mix (or 2TK to mix) button isn't pressed. that's when you'll be getting what you're hearing bleeding with the recording"

What you are needing would be hella-bunch easier if you had a mixer with a couple of subouts...like the 1204, not the 1202.

I didn't say that, I said it'd be a hella bunch easier with a mixer with subouts. To do it with your current setup would require explination that escapes me since I am not sitting in my studio I can't say I'd explain it correctly. A set of subouts is always something nice to have for multitracking.

What you need to do is find a way to send JUST specific channels to a specific set out outs (typically subouts) and have all channels go to main outs which run to your speakers...much easier with a mixer that has more flexible routing options.

I told you how to do it. What I didn't give you is exact names of the jacks cuz I don't know what they are.

i have tried to hook it up every way that you and other ppl listed. nothing works. it either plays the beat threw the headphones but not the voice im recording or plays the beat and the voice threw headphones clearly like i would like it to BUT records/loops the beat also... or it doesnt work all together...

what it has to do is mix INSIDE of my computer/software THEN send it back to the output on my mobilepre/mixer...

the way i have it hooked up and been trying to do is clearly not possible due to the fact that i dont have "subouts"

i dont know... it seems like no one knows how to do this... "Minkus Maz" told the other guy how to do it which flat out amazed me because i have looked EVERYWHERE! i guess he just knew the software/drivers that came with that specific soundcard... thanks

croccrip, do you have Aux sends on the 1202? That might make life a little easier. What you dont want to do is send the signal out to the mobile pre using the tape outs. Dont push any of those buttons down either.

Plug the mobile pres outputs into a stereo input on the mixer. Next plug a line out from your mixers Aux Send or sends for left and right. Although for vocals a mono signal is just fine. Now on the channel on the mixer that the mic is plugged into turn up the Aux send knob a bit untill you see your getting signal into your recording software. Make sure you do not turn the knob up on the channels that have the line out from the mobile pre.

Now you should be able to hear the tracks and your vocal you are recording.

Yeah, aux out could work, but it's a pain in the butt sometimes getting the ratio of the send right and setting the gain staging doing it that way...or, it's always been a pain for me anywway, thats why I bought the 1622FX-Pro mixer, so I wouldn't have to do that crap any more...

The main out and control room out will do the same thing you are having trouble with now. Which is sending everything back to the mobile pre inputs.

YA, the FX send or Aux send are the same thing. But with the mixer you have it is the best alternative.

And as dB stated you will have to do a bit of messing around to get your levels correct. I used to do it that way when a bigger mixer wanst available to use. It isnt the best alternative, but with your mixer it is the best one.

Can you turn the FX off on the Behringer? I forgot you had the 1202FX.

AHHHHHH!!!! I finnaly got it to work... this was the problem... when i got the Mobilepre i hooked it up via usb BEFORE i put in the driver/control panel/ect. disk... well when i did that it ONLY installed the drivers for RECORDING and PLAYBACK not ALL OF THE DRIVERS which included u know what... THE MONITORING... so i uninstalled all of the previous drivers and then redid everything by putting in the disk FIRST and then hooking up the USB... everything is in runnin order... preciate everyones input

EDIT* - PS: i feel like a jackass

maybe we should close this with the Man's Prayer?

I'm a man,
but I can change,
If I have to,
I guess.
