Im finally almost done building and painting the rooms I built in my garage and have been thinking alot about what to do next. Does anyone have any tips on foam placement or anything I should know about making this room sound great. I have two rooms (control room and live room) neither are huge but the live room is larger and it has a vocal booth in the one cornor.

Basically is there any certain way i should go about putting up foam other than trial and error?

start from the mix position and clap your hands....sound works like billiard balls, and will travel outward from the speaker in a strait line...the big flat surfaces that are closest to you are gonna be your first priority....so look to the left or right, and slap some foam up at ear level between your head and where the speakers are gonna be....don't forget to check above your head too. clap your hands and use your ears to tell you where the sound is most 'active'...you'll hear some ping-pong type slap echos. for the live room, walk around the room clapping your hands, notice the room's 'sweet spots' and problem areas like corners (also do a short vocal burst like "HEY" and cut off your voice real fast (fast release time for you synth programers), this'll help you hear your room resonate better than just clapping.

Yep, WYD has it right. From my experiance you should start off with the less is more attitude and dont over do the foam at first. Put some up to help eliminate reflexions and then work on tuning from there. The live room will probably need something more removable as there will be times you want a little ring in the room. The vocal booth can be padded pretty well as most times you will want a pretty dead sound. Then add reverb to the vocal in the mix.

I use these from this company and they are amazing! My mixes translate spot on in different playback systems and harmonically my sound is right on too! Cant beat the prices too!
