Hey DB, you thought about doing the contracting / self employed thing? I'd think you'd be able to crank out sites for people on your own.

Yeah, actually I do side work now, and have turned down many contract possibilities due to this job, I'll just have to start taking them now.

Plus I have already spoke with some contacts I have so things are already in the works...things will come around, it may not work out how I want, but it will work out, it always does. I just gotta keep from getting down on myself...

Aye, for sure defo dont get down on yerself...

As you say, there's the sideline you have which for my money, is damn professional on its on. You know what yer doing and this is gonna sound crap but you will probably do well oot of this in a roundaboot kinda way. I dont mean this to sound like **** like you'd expect folk to say - I genuinely mean it.

I cant believe that you werent doing your own thing already cause I think you'd defo make it with your sideline due to the skill you have. Certainly from the internet/scripting side of things. I dunno aboot your audio work but judging on your own music stuff, its darn good man so theres possibilities there.

So, for sure, if someone can make it - it would be you dude. Defo dont get down on yerself.

I know I mentioned this when Tincan had the same prob - I could be in the same boat soon working for a big insurance co which is aboot to implode - so I've been tryin to get ma sideline on the go tae - ma web design stuff. Karma has a habit of popping up man...sounds like crap but its true.

Stick in man...you'll do it.

And, all the best.

Coco.

Thanks for all the well wishes, it means a lot.

I am fine with it at the moment, a few hits on me already, people that I have worked with in the past have already emailed with opportunities, a few people have come through, or will come through, with contract work...

Everything has a reason, the reason may suck and all that, but life is a rollercoaster. Without some lows the highs are not nearly as cool.

Definately agree with the roller coaster thing dB. In the time I have known you we have both seen high's and lows, and never let it get under the skin for too long.

Like coco said, you have so me great skills and I for one am sure there are peeps out there who know it as well.

Like we discussed on the phone, some peep's have allready been knockin so you know they are out there.

And finally just my 2 shillings worth, dont take any rubber nickels, they dont spend well. :-O

Oh, and by the way pretty shitty of em not to let you clean out your own damn desk. Ther I got that off my chest.

Thanks peeps, I have a total stress headache today...filing for unemployment, putting out resume's, contacting people, argh...it's more work being unemployed...irony defined...

but, eh, that's life, I just want to get back to work before my kids insurance runs out...I can live with it, my kids I gotta provide for...that's what it's all aboot.

Correct...thats all that stops me from chuckin in the job at ma "real" work and goin solo with web design/something music related or something worthwhile that makes ME rich rather than the fatcats....

But as you say dude, gotta put food on the table.

That really sucks, my only layoff experience was with SARCOM and I was layedoff the day bofore I was supposed to start working there, at the very very begining of the dotcom bust... I did get seperation pay :)

Just remember on corporate jobs you might now have to contact human resourses directly as here in columbus they don't really list corporate jobs publically anymore. It's all "inside" hiring of "outside" applicants who know where to look. Corporate entry level ($20 per hour and below) practically requires a temp agency...which are conviently located inside the human resourse departments :/

I am thinking of entering the jobmarket once again myself... I just need a really flexable job :)

Hey dB! Very sorry to hear about your situation. :( Been out of town.

But I'm with everyone else regards your skill level and like I said before, 'what goes around comes around'...sounds like that's happening already...with offers and such. You're a very generous man and...what would this world be like without people like yourself.

I have another saying, 'when one door closes, another one opens'...wish you all the best...but I know there's going to be something for you...maybe not what you want...could be something fantastic...something you never expected, even in your wildest dreams :)

Kind regards,
BM

dB, I just saw this thread for the first time... Getting laid off sucks hard, man, it just really does. Your webcrafting work is top notch, and if what you do in your free time at HRC is any indication of the quality of work you do on the job, you will get something soon. Your time off may even turn into a brief little vacation with a pay raise waiting at the end of it. Stay positive - you'll have something soon

But good luck with the over 6 percent job.. Nice raise!!
