Jul 06, 2006 09:51 pm dB, you have to register your name to what you want. You can however go in and edit your profile name. Just register a new one and make the URL what you want. Tripps and zek, I'll send ya invites tommorrow. Mine is pretty much music friends only with a very few exceptions of family and the odd begger here and there. I rotate differant bands and their music through. Tripps, I'll rotate yours through in week or so.
Anyway, heres mine.

Jul 07, 2006 05:10 am Zek - sent ye an add request...
For info, I run 2 (though spend more time on the band one which is):
www.myspace.com/thedesmoinesriot -
OR ME
www.myspace.com/colinmm
Sorted...hit me up guys (though I think we've all hit each other up on this thread so far).
Zek, I also "sold out" in the end too and man I am glad I did...such a great way to network with contacts for gigs etc and to do it directly...braw!!!
Cheers
Coco.
Jul 07, 2006 05:12 am dB - cant add you as a friend bud - it wont let me! keeps asking for a second name or your email addy !! Sorry dude, cannot hit ye up!
Cheers
Coco.
Jul 08, 2006 06:17 am OK, I changed my MySpace prefs...should be able to add yourselves now.
Jul 08, 2006 07:08 am I hate this MySpace thing, it seems so stupid difficult to get to prefs, to your profile, etc...unless I am just dumb...but I think I could build a WAY better networking site than this piece of crap...

Jul 08, 2006 10:09 am I agree... the prefs is very unintuitive
Jul 08, 2006 10:11 am maybe my next upgrade to Curium CMS should include what I planned anyway, massive profile improvements to give it this networking type of feel...nothing they have is that difficult, and making more intuitive wouldn't be difficult either...
where the hell do people customize the page's appearance?
Jul 08, 2006 01:52 pm dB - hit ye up (band and my own one)..
RE: Customising...just alter the profile (edit profile) and ammend the stylesheet dude...also, it accepts HTML and Flash inserts etc... if ye signed up as a band (even tho yer an idnvidual) ye get 4 songs and its easier to customise ;-)
Cheers dude

Jul 08, 2006 04:48 pm jeez, so now a "musician" is a special signup...man, what a crap web site...just proof that any knucklehead with a good idea can get rich, even if it's executed horribly.

Jul 09, 2006 12:53 am You can insert your own player and stuff with html code. Tuna did on his page.
And he says he isnt a geek. :-(
Those of you who were not allready on my list are invited as of tonight.
And ya dB, I was a little peeved when I did the normal one thinking I could put up the 4 song player and ya cant. So now I need to get the wimpy player and code it into myspace and host the tunes on pigpen. But hey, its all good. I like the simple layout I have without all the extra crap I have seen on some of the pages. And besides, the player on myspace is the slowest thing on this earth at times. So its easier to just link out to another player with the music hosted somewhere else.
Jul 09, 2006 02:50 pm What I REALLY like about MySpace is the networking abilities and more than that, the EQUALISATION!
EVERYONE (in the main) has the same crack at the look and feel, layout and quality of the page as they are all stuck with the same framework...vintage!!
Love it. It means guys like me, and the rest of ya can (with some time invested) have just as good if not better than the biggest bands in the world (at least in the MySpace world) and I like that ;-)
Also, you can embed Flash etc so aye, you surely can add the player and go for it...tis easy enough. I actually think I'll do that on my page (my own page) so I can have all my songs in one place...sorted ;-D
Embrace the revolution dudes...its all good!
(except fox now on it ;-( !! Who knows where that will lead...
Coco.
Jul 09, 2006 03:37 pm Jeezuz, I have gotten loads of requests for "friends" from stupid young girls with webcams and stuff...I have denied more requests than I have approved...
Seems like kind of a dorky tool so far...

Jul 09, 2006 03:37 pm My personal gripe though with it is the morons that paste so much crap on their page and pay no attention to hwo wide it is and then you have to cross scroll to see the other friggin side of the page. Kids I would be guessing. My daughters page is like that. chock full o crap that isnt for anything at all. But hey, whatever turns the kids on I guess. So ya your right coco, anyone can go to one of the hundreds of pre-written code site now that cater to myspace codes and just copy and paste the crap in and there you go, all the sparklies and glitter flashy things you need to make a gauhdy web page all your own.
I like mine dark and simple, no glitz or glammer. Just pushing the bands I think are worth it.
Jul 09, 2006 03:39 pm hey, tell tuna to request me as a friend...I would, but I dunno where he is or what email to send it to and stuff...

Jul 09, 2006 03:40 pm Yep, it is dorky. I deny at least 15 or 20 per day lately. Only accepting friends that are music realated, except for the kids. But they are the only acception to the rule. If you dont do music, then your not in. Keeps it real simple. But I agree with coco on the networking thing. And besides, it gives me a chance to palnt HRC banners everywhere I go.

Jul 09, 2006 03:41 pm Go in my friends list and I think he is on the first page. Or better yet, I'll send you a check out my friend message, that'll get ya there.
Jul 09, 2006 03:42 pm Yah, I dig it now - I really do!
But FAR MORE for the networking opps it gives. For example, I can now go STRAIGHT to venues and organise gigs, speak to support/bands we're playing with, hear their songs, find out a bit more about em and everyone is equal in myspace world ;-D !
dB, I agree with the quirky shitty bits of it...you and I both know there are many ways this sucka could be improved (I believe its NOT the first of its kind by the way, but a more successful model of something that did exist) - as I say, I really dig it for the networkin ops.
What I dont like, is the fact when you have say 400 friends like my band does, and ye add another, you MUST hunt thru all pages to find any new ones - i.e. if someone YOU request adds YOU, you dont know it!!!!!!! How rubbish is that!! Gash.
But, overall , as a means of communication and networking, its good.
Noize, agreed - all that crap with sparkles and horizontal scrolling ( A BIG NO NO for any website!!) does piss me off a bit. But, as far as making a cool page easily goes, its not bad.
Alas, it helps if you can match yer MySpace with yer actual website, which I done..the joy of CSS ;-)
Coco.
Jul 09, 2006 03:43 pm Noize, send me one too (to the DMR + my own one) and I'll add um too...great!
Cheers
Coco.

Jul 09, 2006 04:34 pm coco: yeah... its a billion times better than the origional geocities...
there needs to be a way to organize friends... like I would want "band friends" "model friends" "actor friends" "generic friends" even if others couldn't see it I wouldn't want to waste your time posting a casting call to bands across the country.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but we now have a new Myspace page due to the fact that we have just changed our band name. If you get a chance drop by www.myspace.com/thelondonproject and add us as a friend. Currently we only have 2 friends and that is just..... lame
EDIT: changed URL to our new myspace page.

Feb 07, 2007 12:05 am An article says that The Wall Street Journal produced an article that highlighted the importance in regards to how posting to social networking sites could impact prospective employment opportunities. The article, entitled, “Mr. Pratt Cleaned Up His Act to Impress an employer; Killing a MySpace Profile,” highlighted the actions of a 22 year old, Mr. Pratt, who had at one time had a profile on MySpace that was somewhat boisterous, to say the least. The profile in question contained photographs of the individual drinking and also contained information about his dating activities.
This article I found points out that we should be careful on what we are saying and sharing on our myspace profiles because we do not know in time it might be used against us just like what happened to Mr. Pratt.

Feb 07, 2007 03:04 am I have talked to many people who recruit college students for entry level jobs that say they will check out their facebook (another social networking site) page to learn more about them prior to interviewing them. Definitely, if you're looking for a job, keep it somewhat professional.
Oh yeah, and how do you make it so your profile shows more than 8 friends? Some people have like 16 or 20 friends... what the hell.

Feb 07, 2007 07:57 am no kidding on the employment stuff... I've read blogs of people who sent me resumes and usually it's the deciding factor.
I've even stopped posting in a lot of boards that go political because someone can just google my email and find everything I've ever said. ...and being a moderate, nobody likes what I have to say. :)
