OK, who is getting logged out of this site for no reason? It made one of coolo's thread disappear and I want to find otu why it's frickin happening.
If anyone is having these problems, open the cookie file for HRC in a text editor and copy it into a post in this thread.
There should be two cookies "u_id" and "challenge".

FYI all HRC'rs, there's only one text file you're looking for, and the contents have information for two cookies inside. I didn't know this and thought I was missing something when I saw only one text file pointing to hrc.
Jul 26, 2004 12:38 pm good point, thanks. Also, I need to know if you log in with the "remember me" function or not.
Jul 26, 2004 12:47 pm Ok, until I fix it, I think I have added a decent error catch to help prevent threads from vanishing.
God willing.

Here is the current contents of the cookie. when I get logged out the cookie is gone.
When leaving a post is when it usually autologs me out, sometimes the post disappears other times it doesn't. But anything that changes the page can do it. It's happened when I refresh a page, go to a new page, or come to the site for the first time. I use the Remember Option.

Jul 26, 2004 02:45 pm interesting, thanks. The cookies look in order...this makes less sense every time someone posts any info.
Oh, and that was me that put asterisks in the value of that one string, just a small security measure...
Jul 26, 2004 03:57 pm DB..this is a mad yin for yi.
I see posts on the forum with "last updated by" and when I go check, these threads are missing.
When I go in again, they appear!!
i.e. I checked Willum's bagpipe..er..I mean heart logo and it "last updated by Coolo"..when I went in, Coolo's post was gone. Yet, when I come out and went in again, it appeared!
Mental eh!
Any help you need, give a shout.
Coco.
Jul 26, 2004 05:28 pm well, I did dump a few posts that were screwing stuff up, so I am sure thee are a few missing now...
Jul 26, 2004 09:27 pm Oh, and also, before posting your problem, make sure you have logged out, delete ALL HRC cookies from your system and logged back in and if it happens again after that, then post.

Jul 28, 2004 07:47 am Mines been cool for a while now, but it's doing it to me 3 times so far today. Got it love it dB! Oh yeah, I cleared the cookies.
Jul 28, 2004 07:50 am Not much I can do about it on this end, everything is in order and working like it should be.
When logged in, what cookies do you have from HRC?
Jul 28, 2004 08:04 am Actually, just FYI, that is one cookie file, but it is actually two cookies. u_id is one and challenge is the other, just as it should be...
I am stumped, it has to be a client side issue, or it would be affecting everybody, except it affects everybody when threads disappear as a result, tho that hasn't happened since I put up a little error catch...this is so confusing. There is no consitency as to where it happens, when it happens or why...

Jul 28, 2004 08:12 am Wonder if the people that have these issues are using Internet Explorer. IE is a big security-risk/nasty internet browser, yet it's the only one I use. Think that could be it? IE has updates every month when Microsoft release their monthly updates. One of the updates could have changed everyone's IE to work like this on this site?
Jul 28, 2004 08:17 am I use IE's back end via the Maxthon browser, and I know Noize uses IE as well and we keep it updated, and we don't have these problems.
Part of my security fix was actually working around one of the IE security holes.

Jul 29, 2004 07:40 am I use the latest version of IE at work, and my pc is automatically updated with every latest update. I use Win 2000 here, v.5.00.2195, w/ service pack 4.

*grumble grumble grumble*
Aug 02, 2004 06:20 am I had that problem Willum...
Try deleting all your cookies after loggin out, then loggin in again a fresh so to speak. IT seemed to clear it for me.
Cheers...
Coco.
Aug 03, 2004 09:03 am Strange... after not having experienced these problems since i turned up round here again, it just happened to me after pressing SUBMIT on coco's song thread. Hasnt happened before or after, so maybe it was local with me?
Aug 03, 2004 09:08 am Maybe. It doesn't happens often enough and has never happened to me, so I really haven't nailed down any reason.
What I would like to know is if it happens going from page to page at random, or only when posting to the forum...
Aug 03, 2004 05:52 pm Seems to be limited to the forum DB for me anyways...

Aug 03, 2004 09:40 pm I usually only go to the forums... I don't know. Will get back to you on that.
Aug 10, 2004 07:54 am If anyone gets logged out again, look for a cookie called "error" and tell me the value of it. It may help me track down the prob...
thanks.

Aug 11, 2004 10:57 pm I'm almost certain now that it has something to do with the size of temp internet files cache. After the last time it happened I increased the size of mine and it was longer before it occured again.
I'll keep an eye out for the error cookie if it happens again to me.

Aug 25, 2004 06:26 am Hey DB
This is happening again for me! Nowt has changed - settings all as per usual. Its been about 7 or 8 times now. Seems random too - nae real pattern...
I will monitor it but it seems to be happening quite a bit now. Have you made changes at all to HRC?
Cheers buddy.
Coco.
Aug 25, 2004 06:49 am nope, haven't changed a thing in quite a while...
Aug 25, 2004 08:17 am OK, correction, I just now made a tiny little change that shouldn't really affect anyone...but we'll see, it did cut down on a minor bit of processing power.

remember me- enabled
It just started happening to me now and pretty often, too. There's no pattern to it. Also I lost all the images. No pics, no lables, no avatars, no nothing except every now and then I can see one of the banner ads.
Aug 28, 2004 04:20 pm OK, well, from the above I can tell you hang out at homerecording.about.com :-)
If no images and stuff are being seen it sounds like a browser prob...

Sep 05, 2004 02:10 pm Hmmm, I'm now experiencing the ramdom log outs over the last 4-5 days or so. Took me a while to figure out that it was happening. I'd post the cookies, but I don't know where I would find them. I'm using Mozilla Firefox.
Sep 05, 2004 10:56 pm just to update, I can't view any HRC images in MS IE or Firefox. I also cleared out my cache. Still sound like a browser problem? Although I would like to view images and use smilies, etc. really I guess it's only a minor inconvenience

Sep 05, 2004 11:25 pm In IE go to Tools/Options/Advanced/Multimedia and make sure showing images is enabled. Or is it just at HRC you can't view images?
Dan
Sep 06, 2004 12:11 am just HRC, good thought though
Sep 06, 2004 12:49 am it was happening to me several weeks ago, i think, but it has stopped. it was very sporadic.
i use the remember me function all the time. i would visit the site, close the browser, leave the computer on, return hours later, open the browser again, and find that i'd been logged off. i couldnt understand and i thought i was losing my mind. that i hadnt been using the remember me function after all. i thought i was though. i still think i was.
