Anybody gone to or going to any good concerts this year

I just went to see Slipknot last night, and man they freakin rocked! They have to be one of the best bands I've seen live. They certainly know how to put on a show. They mostly played older songs; they only played 2 songs from their new album.

There's several other good metal bands coming through that I wouldn't mind seeing. I might have to try and catch the Mudvayne show as well.

My son Ray and I saw them on the first show of the tour here in MN.

And yes, they put on one of the best live shows around. I think we are going to the Des Moines show as well.

The sounds was a little off here as to be expected on the opening show of the tour. And Joey is riding the spinning drums this year. It was kinda cool to see that as I'm sure many that haven't been fans for several years have never seen that rig before. Joey has still got to be one of the best drummers in that genre of music.

Nothing good comes up here for the most part. If I want a good concert I gotta leave the state 99% of the time. And I will do so if GWAR does another tour :)

Our next band up here is Story of the Year :(, not my thing. But; they are a popular band and we get to open for them, I do like that part.

Sorry Cpt. Danielle, Kial, and Hunter have all quite GWAR. For the most part, it's the X-men that have taken their places. So it's not the same.

As for the shows that we are doing, we have:
Lucinda Williams
The Neval Brothers
Dave Mason
Duncan Shiek
The Fab Fuax
David Sanborn
And BB King
All with in the next three weeks.

Ya, the GWAR show here last without them really kinda was lame.

Lucinda Williams had a nervous breakdown last time she was here a few months ago and completely forgot lyrics to songs she has been doing for years. It was the worst show I have ever seen her do.

Now Dave Mason I would like to see come through here. He hasn't been here in years.

BB King is due again through here as well. He always plays the smaller up close venues which is really good.

Meshuggah, Cynic, and The Faceless. Probably the only time i will ever see Cynic live. This show was a religious experience for me.

BB King, Nice!

Well I never got to see Cynic live. I bet that was awesome. My brother saw them a long time ago when they played with Cannibal Corpse. Unfortunately I missed out on that show.

It was such a **** year, I only made it to one show. That being Alice Cooper... and of course, being Alice, it was phenomenal. He comes through Detroit every year, and never does the 'same' show. The guy is friggin' amazing!

There really seems to be less and less coming through on the stages that I find myself feeling honestly 'compelled' to go see. Slipknot would be sweet... missed 'em last time through. meh

A friend just told me he's going to go see Andrew Bird on Tuesday at Cain's Ballroom. No fair!

After last year's extensive coverage of SXSW, I really want to go one of these years. It sounds like an awesome festival atmosphere, more music than you could shake a stick at.

Well I'm not a fan, but we are opening for story of the year when they come up. I will probably watch them do some backflips. They were popular for a bit, should be a decent show for the AK and a great crowd for my tiny band.

I just got invited to go see DMB with my friend up in New England at the end of May. I'm mild about DMB but I always enjoy hanging out with my college buddy anyways. Plus the hot young chicks come out in droves to see Dave. I'll be the dirty old man ogling the nubile ladies.

I've not really been in to DMB that much either, the first 3 albums were decent though. I was pleasantly suprised when I was bought a ticket for springsteen as a present and I found out they were supporting.

I'm not really into springsteen either. My wife just thought it would be nice to go to an outdoor show in London for the evening.

I have an invite to play out for the first time in years at SXSW. A long time friend was trying to arrange a reuniting of an old band who's keyboard player passed on years ago. I would have been filling his shoes and loving it. Playing on real B3's again for a change or playing my own rig. Either way I would love it. But its not looking good as about half the fellows would not be able to make it. But he is still working it and I'll drop stuff like a hot potato for that. dB and my son Ray will of course be my road crew, or entourage. But I'm not holding my breath on it for this year.

Ooooh, classical now aye?

Although I wouldn't mind tickets to several of the MN Orchestra's performances of some of the major pieces. They have some pretty modern stuff that they work out these days and this years schedule looks OK.

Noize, I hope that you get the chance to go back down to SXSW.

I only got a chance to go once. The band I was with played Maggie Mays. And I loved it as well. I know that you have made it there several times. But, come on! It's SXSW. And I would love to hear a recording of you playing a B3.

Need to rent one? I have 4 B3's at my shop. Want a 122 or a 145, or a 147 cab to go with that? And I have 122 and 147 amps.

Come on Noize. You know that you want to do it.

If it was solely on me wanting to go. I'd be there already. As fate would have it though not enough members to fill it out far enough to even make the trip and find fill in guys down there.

I am starting to try working with a few guys to see about going next year though for sure.

Sad part is Tuna would have had time off enough to come down as well. Tuna and Ray have never seen me play live, other then sitting in with bands during studio session's or what not when they were younger.

On the B3 thing. We have been digging through some very old tapes and I've come across a few tidbits that if I can clean them up at all will get posted here for kicks. Most are extremely hideous things. Some stuff that was recorded on an old Silvertone reel to reel. I'm talking the small transistorized job with like 3 or 4" reels on it and the little cardioid mic it had. And some of them are way back from an extremely young age. But I'll see if I can find something to satisfy the B3 thing.

I wish I had room for a B3 here now. I'd love to have that and a pair of 147's again.

OK, now I have to go clean up.

saw Messuggah late last year. im shocking though at times,

i go to see a band like that and what do i do?
get too pissed and talked to some dude about music whilst the band does their set, for the whole set.

i cant remember too much about it at all.
ah well.

Slipknot were great f sure live.
even if you hated the music, the show in itself was worth seeing.

I went to see Tommy Castro, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Deana Bogart and Magic Dick Saturday night. It was the Blues cruise review and it was smoking. In falls church VA, at the State Theater. A night of blues with an EXTRA WOW factor!

Bluesdues, I am so jealous of that one. Please tell me that they all jammed on Whammer Jammer....

I've seen Dick and Tommy do it with Elvin Bishop before. But that ensemble would be rippin to hear it with Deana on keys.

That brings back some memories of seeing J. Geils Blues Band.

Don't know if I'm going to be going to any this year, Judas Priest & Whitesnake are going to be at the fair we usually go to for concerts, but I'm not much of a fan of either of them. The wife might force me to go see Kelly Clarkson though. :P

Oh yeah Noize they jammed it out. this show was about 4 1/2 hours. I'll put it this way, when Tommy Castro started the show he said this show is not for light weights. We are going to be here a while.... And by the way they did mention that the J.Geils Blues Band would be doing some up coming shows. I know Detroit was one of the venues.

Got to see Govt. Mule at a small venue in Little Rock last year. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals opened for them. Great show from start to finish!

Rob, Botti was very cool in the Smooth Jazz days. Not listened to much of his stuff since then though.

Bluesdues, That would have been a grand show indeed then for that long. And I would love to be able to take Ray to a J.Geils show. I think he would dig it. Actually Tuna probably would as well.

Alice, Govt. Mule rocks for sure. I've seen them in a small club up here as well. Makes for a good show.

That'd be a good show, JDOD. I got to see NIN with Bauhaus a coupl'a years ago.

Man, I just found out tha Spinal Tap is doing a show at the Fox Theatre, here in Detroit, May 29th... UN-friggin'-PLUGGED!

'Tap... unplugged! That's just crazy!

I'm tempted to go see The Decemberists on their tour to support their new release The Hazards Of Love. They're performing the album in its entirety, then following it up with a set of old material. What a show that'd be! They're playing here in Kansas City at the Uptown Theater, a great smallish-mid-sized venue.

I saw them on their last tour and I was thoroughly entertained. Colin Meloy is a born entertainer, almost to a fault. He had the crowd involved the whole time, coaching everybody to wave their hands, stomp their feet, sing along, dance, part like the Red Sea, and even had an audience member sing part of a song. Great show, I highly recommend seeing them if they stop near you.

I'm jealous JDOD, that sounds like a good one!

I'm thinking about seeing Lamb of God with As I Lay Dying. It's on a work night though, so I'm not sure if I will or not. I've seen them 4 times already so I guess it wouldn't hurt to miss one show. I'm really diggin that new album though.

Did anyone here ever get a chance to see Behold...The Arctopus before the drummer left this past December?

They used to gig literally EVERY DAY of the year, sometimes twice a night. I never got a chance to see them in person but I've seen enough youtube videos to know that I wish I had...

I was in the pub the other night and my mate rocked in telling me he'd been stood up.

This meant a spare ticket for me to see 'Zappa plays Zappa'

UNBELIEVABLE show.

I know very little about Frank zappa and even less about his son but jesus, What a show.

Bleak, it is one of the best shows around.

Dweezel really does his fathers music justice. He is probably the only one who could play the way his father did. Once tight band as well though isn't it?

Zico, Wrath was what I was referring too. I haven't really listened to a lot of As I Lay Dying, but what I've heard I've liked. Just haven't felt inclined to buy an album yet.

Zappa plays Zappa is joining Dream Theater on the Progressive Nation Tour. I may indeed have to check that one out.

Yes he does Rob.

He touches on almost everything. There have been a couple different tours with different stuff on each one.

And what is funny is the dedication to play it as his father did is what I admire the most. He doesn't embellish it with any of his high speed playing from his own. It is simply doing what his father did.

I saw his father many times throughout the years, and if you close your eyes, you would swear he was still here. Of course the things that got Frank a little more pop attention like I am the Slime and Yellow Snow, St Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast and the like are there.

I want to hear him play his father BeBop Tango live, and bring out the stripper's like his father did. I was at a show in CA way back in the 70's and they brought strippers that had just finished a show supposedly at Edwards Air Force base. But it was pretty cool. That show actually ended up being recorded for the live album Roxy and Elsewhere.

OK, nuff rambling for now. Can you tell I am a Zappa freak?

Hey Noize!

Yeh mate - unbelievably tight. That's quite a feet considering the eccentric and complicated nature of the music.

I caught the end of the tour which is a shame as i would love to go see it again.

I HIGHLY recommend this show to anyone who loves music.
