well....where to start, last Thursday, Destroy By Design played the Hard Rock Cafe here in Nashville, and with the help of a few friends we got a few reps from Muzik Mafia to come out and check them out.....long story short, things are gonna get crazy here in the next six months....they're wanting to blow these guys up around spring break....we're talkin' MTV, national tour, AND the release of MY album!! which means i'll be gettin' royalties!!!!! we're gooin' underground until then and not playin' any shows, finishing up the album, and y'all should be hearin' our names in about six months....Muzik Mafia is EXTREMELY excited to work with us, we've hung out with Kid Rock (part owner of Muzik Mafia) twice this weekend (i had no clue he lives in Nashville now) and things are lookin', and sounding, good....we're workin' on copywriting the name, logo, and songs this week, and since they already have their debut album recorded and mixed (well soon anyway), we don't need a huge signing bonus...AND, we own everything, so far....we've been told, come spring break, we will no longer need to work our day jobs, as music will be our day jobs.....now, DBD will be the first, hard rock band on the label, they love my sound, and if things go really well, there talkin' about havin' me as their "go to guy" for future rock bands....we've been wooed all weekend, and super buzy...today will be day 5 of recording a new single, and finishing up the EP!!!
so expect to hear some loud noize and hard rock, commin' outta Nashville in the next 8 months or so, cuz we've joined the Muzik Mafia family. (unofficially)

Aug 01, 2005 12:44 pm thanks, man yeah we're tryin' hard to keep a level head through this, cuz it's early and anything could happen (or go wrong)...here's the wierd thing, i've got 3 bands waiting to be recorded at my new studio, that i might not even be workin' at...if this MM thing works, i'm gonna hafta turn down my house engineer job!! or atleast put it on hold indefinately...i havn't told the studio owner about all this yet. but geez, i never thought i'd hafta turn down a studio askin' me to work! i'm gonna try to bang out those 3 bands before **** takes off with DBD, to keep my word to them, but i think after i get off this train, i'll be able to charge more for my time, hopefully.

Aug 01, 2005 03:48 pm ya know, there's two complaints i've got so far....i gave the producers one of my 'masters' and they liked it, but they wanted to master it themselves...all he did was slap some Waves multiband limiter, and literally boost the lows, mids, and highs, and compressed everything so now my beautiful dynamic song is squashed into what looks like a 2"x4" on the track view.....and they say "sounds better huh?" once again we have fallen victom to over compression...i understand, if it needs to compete with other major label rock bands (volume-wise), but geez, we must put an end to the madness!
also, they're talking about "blowing up" the band on their first album....what ever happend to putting out three albums before you got HUGE?? it seems like all that matters is 'discovering a band' make their debut sell 5,000,000 units, the next will sell a bit less, and by the third, the band is juiced....off to the next. that dosn't sit well with me.

Aug 01, 2005 07:32 pm Congrats WYD!
They do that. Some of my friends are signed to a major, and apparently how it works is they take on three or four bands, push them all like crazy, make their money off one as that's all they need and drop the rest. They don't know what's going to stick with people, but let's hope that it's you guys in your case and my friends in mine. It just makes business sense, labels are more and more just investment companies, it's not about music, it's about money made from product, i guess you just have to weigh it up. Personally i think if you go in with your eyes wide open you stand a good chance of staying sane.
Whatever happens, just have a f**king ball, and anything you make invest it wisely. Any advance you don't need to live on, buy equipment, and obviously record yourselves wherever possible.
Mate, i'm cheering for you!

Aug 02, 2005 01:57 am Yeah man, keep your head on straight, cuz from what I hear, what's all good one day can end up being all bad the next. But right now is the time to be excited, so, congratulations. You got that good karma going, so this hopefully will continue down a positive path. Erray!

Aug 02, 2005 09:10 am Sweet Deal... Just have a music lawyer (that doesn't have ties to the label) ready to review everything before you sign.
