I appologize for spelling errors as I'm typing this on a Celeron 300mhz PC as my DAW has bit the dust... I think the video controller has gone bad... or maybe the video card... the 12Vcore was overvolting along with something else... but sometimes if I wiggle the AGP video card it will post... ... I guess I have to sink a few hundred into a cheap *** motherboard to finish oiut the movie... I'm thinking of buying simply the least expensive board and processor I can find at CompUSA... hopefully I can keep it all under $300 (Which will probably have to unclude RAM... ) and I hope it's not the video card as I won't have enough money to replace that also :P but I blew up a firewire card a few months ago in it (sparks and majic blue smoke) and so I will assume that it damages the board... the CMOS battery seems to not hold a charge either as for the past few weeks I've hard to reset the BIOS each time it turned on... not that it gets that far now ... so I'll just assume it's the board :)

I have determined that technology hates me :)

Our condolences, also. Now for a moment of silence... OK, now, be prepared. Your symptoms are not good. The prognosis is not good. First, why did your firewire card cook? That is not good. Voltage got somewhere on your MB that it's not supposed to. Anything plugged into the MB is now suspect, including ALL the cards, even the video card. I wouldn't trust it. You may even have damage in your floppy, hard & optical drives! Your memory chips & CPU may not work right, either. If your power supply went south on ya, or you took a voltage spike (lightning) thru the modem, it could mean disaster for the whole enchilada! You might be better off with a whole new box, but then, there's that money thing... good luck.

I would say odds are it's the motherboard being bad, I have seen similar things before back when I was tech-ing for a living, it's often the power supply or the MoBo and the way it handles distributing the power...

Remind me to never let zek use my DAW, the dude just has bad luck lately...what did you do lately zek, it just seems you have bad karma around you or something?

My condolences none the less.

Lost for words with all to say.

What motherboard and processor is it? I can help you find the exact motherboard to replace this so you can continue working. I'm thinking it's just the motherboard going bad, CPU might be fine. Also, I agree with jmail. Soon as you get it back up, backup EVERYTHING! I have seen lightening also hit a computer and just fry the power supply to have the harddrive and motherboard go dead after a month went by. Power does weird things to computers.

If you don't have one, get an UPS for your "new" DAW and use it. Not so much for the "unterruptible" part, but more for the "smoothness" of the power AND surge protection. The more you spend (theoretically), the better they are, but you don't need any of that "networking" stuff where the box can auto-notify you by email or pager or text-message on your cell... Unless you *really* like that kind of stuff... "Oh look, my computer's calling me!!! I wonder wussup?"...
