I havn't been around much reciently as we've been going all out to finish photography by the 25th... and then last week happened...

We had two harddrive failures in one week... both different types of drives (Samsung SP1604N and Western Digital WD1200) and different types of head crashes... yes thats right... in sixteen years of computing of never having lost a hard disk... I have two failues in one week in the last two weeks of production that is setting it back a month(atleast).

The Samsumg is unrecoverable according to the local lab (total head failue - is clicking and screeching and has massive platterdamage) and the WD is being recovered for a mere $530 as it only suffered "a little" platter damage (apparently the head just doesn't touch the disk anymore).

The neat thing is that none of the backups were good because they were based off of the damaged information :)

I have learned a lot because of this though... like how to recover scrached CD's :)

...and the apparent fact that they just don't make HDD's like they used to... like my Linux boot disk (40gig) took a three inch static discharge the first time I picked it up... all of the other drives in my DAW (2gig 10gig and 40gig) have been exposed to three months of rain (and two hurricanes) on the back of an army truck parked within sight of the atlantic ocean... and no hiccups... I buy my first drives over 40 gigs in size and they die for no freakin' good reason. :P

...So the point is - I've listened to most of the music you guys have submitted but have been too really freak'n busy reciently to make decisions...

... the sad part is that now I have nightmares of me reading FTP logs looking for Cyclical Redundency Check errors... :/ and I wish I were joking about that...

Now we expect to finish reshooting the lost scenes by the end of july... which is ok as they were our first scenes and therefore most likely our worst. Hopefully we can still meet the mid september deadline for Sundance submission... :)

Sorry to hear about the problems. HD's these days are run at such high speed and density it's a wonder they don't fail more often than they do.

Best of luck getting everything straightened out and done in time for your sept, deadline.

I feel for ya, Zek. I've had a major failure back in the early days of my career, took a week to recover. And now with the fire last dec, i'll never really be back in the same place I was before.

I'm sure coco will concur as well.

Good luck on the re-shoots, I'm sure they'll be spectacular, now that you all have had time to warm up to the project.

I hope ye can get back on track and IM sure ye will buddy...good luck with the whole project. I am sure it'll come good in the end bud.
