Hey Guys

Long time since I really started a post - been helluva busy but, am getting ready for the first gig in around 2 years so sweatin a bit I am!!

Its a nice wee 40 minute acoustic/electro gig with me on the Les Paul and a bud on the acoustic...mainly (new collabed) original tracks we've nailed over the last 6 weeks.

Its sounding quite good I thinks...both of us used to be in bands so its a come back type thing..should be a blast.

I'll let y'all know how it goes but I canny wait! Ye canny whack live gigs...

Cheers

Coco.

Cheers guys..appreciate the sentiments for sure.

Unfortunately, there will be nae bootleg of this gig - crap slot tae - 11pm on a Tuesday but ye gotta start (again) somewhere!! Next slot we get will be better tho...this is like a "paid rehearsal" as far as I am taking it...and a chance to test our set, songs and get live practice.

But, if this one goes well, I'll book more gigs and get some dosh...and, maybe bootleg the next one!! Im due to record a mates band at the end of the month so I REALLY need to get to grips with the Fostex!!!! Geez...Ive merely tinkered with it so I better get myself in gear soon...

Cheers guys

Coco.

Cheers guys...aye - it will be cool.

Noize, yer right indeed - it would be excellent and probably not much effort at all to record but alas, I aint used that darn fostex yet (tho I will) so the next one I hope to record (with a decent engineer mixing it for us) so it should be pretty cool.

Olddog - thanks for the words...appreciated for sure.

As it stands, I await the venue confirming they can get all this done in a 20 minute cross over/sound check!!!!

1. Rig up my VAMP for the gig
2. Set the 2 geetars (one Les Paul and one semi-acoustic)
3. Level the vocals

Shouldnt be a problem though I Hope the engineer isnt on the beers as 2 of my amps have noticeable sound difference (tho I am not switching mid song but I am switching between songs!!!)

Again, cheers

Coco.

Well now...that just highlights what some punkass fool pretending to be an engineer can do to a sound!!! WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!

We pitched up at 10 (to see the band on in front) not bad we thinks, there are 6 of them and they are loud, we are 2 but oor songs are better so and nicely crafted so we worry not.

The band before is due to finish at 10.40 - they finish at 10.45 and we're due on at 11.00!!! The guy gets me to put the VAMP into an AMP!!! BAD MOVE for starters and mixes the acoustic guitar so low we cant hear it then complaints, tells us the management arent happy, there is nae music. We have LESS than 15 minutes (about 10) for a soundcheck AND to tune teh geetars!!!

Have you EVER heard of a soundcheck that consists of NO LEVELLING!!! We both spoke into a mic and thats it. Nae levels for geetars, nowt.

So, cut a long one short I will NEVER play a gig again where I DONT control the sound...NEVER. **** man, that was awful. As far as I could hear what we DID do was fine, but the acoustic was nowhere to be heard - just a jangly les paul which made us sound bad......never ever again in such a dump will I play.

Anyways...other than that, all cool. The songs were in time, in tune but not right with the sound. Swine fool of an engineer aka a joker.

GRRRR!!!

As per your previous post, perhaps the engineer had toooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhh beeeeeeeeeeeeeerrr!

I know only too well how it feels. The last but one gig I played our sound check was the first song we played (due to the venue owners not knowing how to organise the preverbial p**s up in a brewery.) They gave a slot to a band before us the same day without telling us and giving us time to arrive earlier.

It's like the people who 'should' know what it takes to make things go smoothly, just blank-out at the moment of truth . It happened to us at our last gig as well... not goin' there .

I think there's a 'nightmare-gig' thread somewhere 'round here...

At least the musicianship pulled-through... cheers for that man !

Well, Coco, you have officially arrived. You're not a real performing musician until you've had a gig from hell. Worse ones will come for sure...so will better ones. It's the nature of the beast. Sometimes ya just do a gig to keep your name in the local paper or gig list. I remember scheduling gigs in places we knew sucked, but it was good practice...and know that nobody we actually cared about would be witness. You learn best from these, they are more productive from the learning aspect than good gigs are...good gigs are just good for getting you maybe some tail from cheap chicks, some phone numbers and some free beer.

Cheers guys...

Aye, Ive had some shity gigs in the past, pardon the French but alas, this was the WORST engineer I ever had the displeasure to work with.

Tho, as dB says, its all good. But last night, it wis all bad and I was mightyy pissed for sure.

I dont mind many things but NOBODY messes up my sound in public...until last night!

We live, we learn, we dont go back to grotty dumps with crap engineers...all good experience when restarting the live game I guess.

Cheers guys...appreciate the sentiments for sure.

ugh, that sucks coco. You really got to do a full sound check before the show starts. My condolences, but chalk it up as experience, and the next one will go better.

Been there, done that. Like you say, the next one ask for a garauntee that you will get a decent sound check, and a sober guy at the control's. But good the tunes were in tune and such.

Cheers guys...aye - not much I can say other than a big fat resounding "ARRGHHH" overpaid, underworked little swine of an "engineer" in the loosest sense of the word.

Still...movin up and on....started working on the first CD for the "band" (2 of us so far but Im liking it that way)...its sounding no bad.

I'll be posting the first song quite soon hopefully, keys, acoustic, laid back...sweet as a nut.

Cheers guys...I appreciate yer interest for sure.

Coco.
