Now you have it...

All members, Pro or not, can add cute little self-appointed titles to their profile that appears in their forum posts and in their profile pages...32 characters max, which should be enough for any title...look at my posts for an example.

i've been fantasizing about what it would be like if the HRC pro section had "track notes" to go along with members' music. here the person who recorded the song could list out the various operations they performed on the track. what plugins they used, how its all panned, reverb depths, compression settings, how they got a particular effect to sound the way it does, etc. i'm not sure if people would use it, though. i'd be the type that would write up a long step-by-step for anything i'd post, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

in any case, i guess all that's covered in the posts, huh? haha forget it.

good idea, I'll have to think about that...

You could simplfy that Forty..just have a track notes bit and have what instruments used, key song was in, any maybe any special tricks.

EQ & Compression is probs standard? So just the stuff thats not "normal" or any tricks used...

May be a quicker way of doing it...

maybe it's a bad idea, the product of a lazy mind. usually such details are covered in the post when the person announces the new song for evaluation. just doing a search for the song title is likely to answer any questions i might have. or you can just ask a new one. i guess i'm just always looking for shortcuts to knowledge. i figured with this kind of a standardized system we could listen to tracks and compare to the track notes to help see how different settings alter the sound. if you always knew the compression settings you were listening to, it might help you identify the kinds of settings that help create the mixes youre most drawn to. can you imagine if you got all that info whenever you bought a commercial cd? that'd be sexual.

(sexual is my new version of 'cool.')

yeah, but it's a lame idea cuz few would use it. i dont think i've ever remembered my settings after the song is done. and anyway, learning anything takes time and experimentation--another dimension of my character education at HRC.

I dunno, what if the thread is long gone but the song lives on in your profile or the members music section and one doesn't really wanna go thru the hassle of searching, or the fact that search engines are such beautifully unpredictable beasts...still might be room for the idea in my opinion.

well, cool then. i dunno, i guess its not bad. i was bein' hard on myself.

i didnt know how long you stockpiled threads. i didn't know they ever went away. now i know that they do.

No, thread never "go away" but when they are back on page 20 of any given forum thelikelihodd of them ever being read again are pretty slim unless they come up in a search, and judging by my logs, the search engine isn't really used that often...

Tis a good idea I agree..what would be a good idea is if a master (DB or Noize or someone like that) came up with a template say for entering (bit like a database) and had a load of fields to fill in when you submit your song i.e.
Compression: Ratio = Attack =
EQ: Boost at xxx , cut at xxx
Other FX: Chorus, Flanger, OD
Special Tips: recorded guitar using red hot poker whilst standing in the shower....etc etc

You get the idea tho! Then you would have what you suggest forty (a damn good suggestion and one I for 1 could make use of for getting tips) and also have a structure so everyone would know what they can add that folk may need i.e. compression settigns etc.

Cheers...

Well, coco, the templated "load of fields" and such wouldn't work because the type of info any given song would want displayed would vary far too much. The best bet for something like this would be just a simple text field I believe and let the artist have free reign over what gets put in there and how...

In my opinion.

Thanx EmSee, glad ya dig it :-)

A little clarification. Master dB is the coding king. I only work with what he provides, ie: I couldnt write the code he writes to run this website, and several others like my boyscout troop site, as well as my own.

Now on the other hand, I write code for PLC and micro controllers and code for software midi controllers and and soft synths the like. But web code is way, (or at least quite far) out of my reach.

yeah, a single field would work too. above the blank field you could have a single permanent paragraph full of recommended items/settings/effects a person might want to comment on. the FAQ type stuff. for me, and for lots of people, compression would certainly be a big one.

noize, i dont even know what PLC is..hahaha. as for web code, yeah from what i've seen there's just tons of stuff to learn. i have used things like dreamweaver, though, in the past, and it's kind of enjoyable the way some of those programs can guide you through the process and sort of get your mind set up to understand web html and stuff a little bit. you feel like you're just playing around but pretty soon you can start to kind of understand tables and rollovers and stuff.

A PLC is a Programable Logic Controller. It is like a mini computer used to control or interface differant things electronicaly. But you need to tell them what exactly and how long or how much to do it. Dumb description I know.

Simply they are just a way to interface controls to do bigger things with smaller packages.
