It's been a while since I've been to a show. A friend of mine is in the Dave Mathew's band fanclub, and I usually go with him when they come through Kansas City...and aside from a few Phish shows years ago, I haven't been to a big name show in a long time.
Well, my dry spell is about to end! Within 1 week of one another, I obtained tickets to see two of the biggest influences of my life.
I managed to get in on the presale of only 1,100 or so tickets to see Bob Dylan kick off his midwest tour in Tulsa at Cain's Ballroom on Feb. 28th. It's gonna be sweet...I'm going with some guys I used to be in a band with, and we all worship dylan probably to an unhealthy degree, so it should really be a blast.
Then, on May 10, David Bowie is coming to Kansas City to a venue of about 8,000 seats at Starlight Theatre. Again, I'm going with some guys that have been huge Bowie fans with me since high school, so that show should also be a blast.
Sorry, but I'm very excited and had to tell somebody :-D

Feb 17, 2004 12:20 pm being from Minnesota, I have seen Bob Dylan MANY times, he used to play here a lot. Great concert performer and always has great musicians around him.
Bowie was here not to long ago, I missed him, my wife and I wanted to go but just couldn't find the time.
Deep Purple is also on tour with Thin Lizzy...ROCK! But of course they decide to skip Minnesota, and the closest they are coming is Chicago. Damn them! I wanna rock out with Cozy Powell, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover damnit!
Feb 17, 2004 12:30 pm you guys see this concert in indio, california, called 'coachella' or something? pixies and radiohead are playing along with every other great band in the world it seems like. spans a few days, costs $175 bucks. camp outside.

Feb 17, 2004 12:36 pm dayum, forty! that's quite a lineup. here's the webpage for it: www.coachella.com/main.html
I'd love to see the bands there that I've heard of. Heck, I'd pay that much just to see Radiohead and Wilco :) Well, maybe not :)
And where has And You Will Know Us By the Trail Of Dead been lately? They were at the center of the hype machine this time last year, and they've been silent ever since. I was mild about "Source Tags and Codes", but I was thinking about giving it another try to see if I'd come around.
:edit:
Oh, god! I just scrolled down and looked at the day 2 lineup! it's killing me!
Feb 17, 2004 12:52 pm i know, man. i have the chance to maybe go to this. it would involve deciding to move to LA, so i'm still waiting on that :)
source tags and codes is an album i have very mixed feelings about.

Feb 18, 2004 09:37 pm Kraftwerk, International Noize conspiracy, The Future Sound of London,Howie Day, The Black Keys, Stella Star. And that is just the first day, not including a buch of others. The second day is just as stupenduos, The Cure, Falming Lips, Paul Van Dyk, Ash, Thelonious Monster, Pretty Girls make Graves, and the rest are killer as well. I need a tickit to this thing.

Feb 18, 2004 09:48 pm I am so out out of touch... I haven't heard of any of those bands except Kraftwerk and The Cure...
I used to be with it. Then they changed what It was... Now what's it seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you!
Feb 18, 2004 10:26 pm might I recommend The Crystal Method - Vegas, the definitive big beat trippy breaks album. A must-have for any breakbeat fan and an excellent introduction to 90's electronic dance music that's as relevant today as it was 8 years ago. If you care at all for funky beats, grinding synths, and acid filter sweeps, you must pick this record up.

Feb 19, 2004 02:35 pm Ha ha ha (evil laugh) I am totally going to Coachella. Its pretty f'n awesome. I went last year and the White Stripes anahilated everyone (except Sonic Youth). I think I'm only going for Sat. though, back to back days of 10 hour, 95 degree days standing up is just too much. Pixies and Radiohead, plus the rest of the lineup is sick. I just thought I'd brag.

Feb 19, 2004 08:22 pm Firetruck, I am jealous as all get out.
TCbug, no way will it ever happen to me. The day I cant enjoy it for what it is, and I get tired of new music, is the day I hang it up and crawl in the box and sail away.
