I gotta admit, using that system has really cut down on spam a lot.
Jun 10, 2011 10:37 am I just looked, it's stopped over 20 spammers since about 5 days after implementation. On top of that, I have now submitted 4 spammers that were new to their system, and 3 have been vetted and proven spammers now in the global database, and this one will be in a matter of hours I suspect.

I just have a new API in place to check new members against a large spammer database that hundreds of us forum admin submit to in order to protect each other, and that way I can stop them upon registration if they are found in that database and meet some criteria I have put in place.
It's pretty neat, when they submit their registration form, I send some of the info to this database API, it runs it against the database of known spammers and sends back some info about the user, if they are found, how often, when the last time they were found was and such things...very neat system, and a great community effort supported by loads of us adding the info so a reported spammer on my forum can be stopped at another...and the spammer of another forum can submit so when he comes here he can be stopped...very effective in stopping automated spam systems and stuff, not as good with people actually wasting their own time doing it, but it's a start.

Jun 14, 2011 09:45 am nobody gets in trouble, as there is no real policing on the net, but it does protect my own backyard, and I help protect others, which is a reward in an of itself...plus, I just added a cool little shortcut for myself to be able to submit spammers in a single click...yay me!
