I read stuff like this and wonder how ANYONE can actually agree with it, then I post them here and sure enough, somebody always agrees and has some goofy reason, so, let's hear it.

Aaaaehahaaa!

Anyone who thinks he has a reasonable expectation of privacy in a public toilet has obviously never let a big one rip in those acoustics, amplified by the bowl..

I still think Larry Craig should be appointed to Speaker of the Outhouse.

pfft. it almost seems like the ACLU is a playing a role, generally, that's equivalent to a criminal defense attorney. what i mean by that is that they'll take any case or situation and try to bring civil liberties to the table, and just see what happens.

i'd like to believe that, but i think they mostly believe most of what they back. too bad--it would be nice to believe they're just playing a role, being a counterbalance.

ridiculous stance here they's got.

I don't know the background on this story very well, but... is it against the law to have sex in a stall in a public bathroom?

Anyways, without commenting particularly on this case, I think the ACLU is a very valuable organization, and though not every case they take on makes sense, I think they stand up for our rights and civil liberties, and I'm glad they do.

No shock there, though I think they WERE a valuable org, much like labor unions, they have grown into very counterproductive, even harmful, orgs.

Sex in the public bathroom, isn't that what George Michael got arrested for? Of course that was sex with himself, but still...

So, wait a minute! Does this mean that Sen. Craig is now admitting to looking for Gay sex! Because if he is, he's screwed all the way around. With this defence, it makes him an adulterer. Which is still against the law. And now what, the ACLU is trying to make it legal to have sex in a public place!?! Are you kidding me!

some selected quotes from the article...

"The ACLU filed a brief Tuesday supporting Craig. It cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms "have a reasonable expectation of privacy."

"The Republican senator was arrested June 11 by an undercover officer who said Craig tapped his feet and swiped his hand under a stall divider in a way that signaled he wanted sex. Craig has denied that, saying his actions were misconstrued.

The ACLU argued that even if Craig was inviting the officer to have sex, his actions wouldn't be illegal."

I don't think he's admitting to looking for gay sex. And it looks like it already is legal to have sex in a public bathroom stall in minnesota (aclu or not)...

That makes me wonder...if I am in a bar and ask a chick for a BJ in parking lot...is that a crime? Isn't that sexual harassment, or are gay people not subject to sexual harassment laws?

In other news, OJ really pissed off a judge this time

Correct me if I am wrong, but in a public restroom the thought of a reasonable expectation of privacy. Is four small walls so Bubba doesn't lean over and ask "Hey, how's it hang-in?" Not, dude bend over and let me in the back door.

If you're a president it's perfectly acceptable. If your situation will make money for the ACLU you will be represented. If you are a protected species it's ok in a bar. If you are not a protected species, it is ok in a bar if it is concentual, before the fact; i.e. you must be a mind reader. If you are same species/protected it is a spectator sport. If you are same species/unprotedted it's a crap shoot... you decided on disposition of pun.
