Oct 05, 2007 01:19 pm Bwahaha, man that sucked. I thought you were going to be talking about a mild intonation problem - lol
Oct 05, 2007 01:58 pm what the hell! how is this possible?
Oct 05, 2007 02:10 pm damn, I can't wait until I get a chance to watch this...
I am also glad I implemented the embedding of videos, since then we have had some awesome ones...
Oct 05, 2007 02:19 pm Took me a while to figure out that just posting the link worked after I tried all the other common techniques :)
Oct 05, 2007 03:02 pm What's with the giant phallic microphone that Roth was carrying? I need me one o' them.
Oct 05, 2007 03:26 pm OMG, that's terrible.

Oct 05, 2007 10:20 pm Its really sad, Eddie has really gone downhill over the years. When he speaks it makes Ozzy seem coherent. He's still got alot of his old riffs here, but thats all they are...old riffs.
Great sounding amp anyway.

Oct 05, 2007 10:27 pm I can't believe he would actually continue to play like that. And Roth sucked as badly as the out of tune guitar. I wonder if Alex was embarrassed or anything, seeing as he is probably the only player left in that band with any credible skills anymore. I would have been at the office asking for my money back after the first tune like that, and that appeared to be the encore. What gives with that?????

Oct 05, 2007 10:36 pm You know, one theory that is floating around out there is that the keys were sharp. I don't know about that. They seem correct to me. It sounds like Eddie is tuned to Eb. You can hear him try to transpose so it's not like he's deaf. Why didn't they start the song again... or even grab another guitar... someone was sleeping somewhere and they paid the price. In a way, it could be good to get something like this out of the way early.. hmmm, na, shoot the tech.

Oct 08, 2007 08:45 pm I thought DLR was really good! But that guitar was inexcusable!
Oct 08, 2007 09:16 pm Well when I first watched this I thought that DLR was the joke, then I heard the guitar and realized there were two jokes. DLR's terrible performance is overlooked way too much.

Oct 09, 2007 08:19 pm Ya, funny thing is I saw a clip of him recently just kind of scatting some VH lyrics and he sounded pretty dang good there. Not sure what happened in that video, but like I said, I would have been looking to get my ticket money back if the whole show was that bad.

Oct 10, 2007 01:03 pm Holy lack-of-monitor-speakers Batman! I'm guesing he couldnt hear himself play. AT least, I hope that's the cause of that...

Oct 11, 2007 10:27 am DLR has turned into a Vegas caricature of himself.
I saw VH supporting Black Sabbath in 1978, and they were jaw-dropping. I saw them again at Donington on the 1984 tour and it was incredible. This new version of DLR is so 'game show' it's embarrassing.
Oct 11, 2007 12:55 pm I still love DLR's solo stuff after VH...some great rockin tunes.

Oct 21, 2007 07:43 pm But if you listen closely the bass guitar does sound in tune with it. I'm of the idea that the guitar tech handed Ed the wrong damn guitar.
A tech note here. For Jump Edward had a special tuning on the guitar. And he had several guitars tuned like that for specific tunes. But the Jump guitar was supposed to be the only guitar tuned like that. I would guess the tech handed him the wrong guitar.
Personally, I would have tossed it off stage for the proper guitar. But who knows, the 48k theory sounds good except for the bass sounding in tune.

Oct 23, 2007 03:30 pm Not sure, Noize. Michael Anthony's parts never were overladen with notes. Possibly the bass player found the key (ish) and transposed. Bass is more forgiving than guitar, so maybe EVH had a problem finding the key.

Oct 23, 2007 03:35 pm Apparently (I'm no music theorist) the difference in the 2 different bitrates is 1 1/2 semitones. There was no way for EVH to play the correct notes. At first it really did sound like his guitar was tuned to Eb but now I'm not so sure. Either way I would have thought they would have started the song again. I mean really, with the price of tickets and all I would have rather waited for them to correct the problem than to suffer through that trainwreck.

Oct 23, 2007 06:51 pm Ya, 1 1/2 semitones would have meant he would be searching by bending each and every note. Not likely even he could to that.
Ya, I don't really understand why they didn't just stop the performance and start over. Someone lost their job over that I would imagine.

Oct 31, 2007 07:57 pm It turns out that it wasn't Eddie after all.
"So what happens when you’re Van Halen, the last song in your set list is the million-seller “Jump” with its synthesizer-keyboard opening…and the recording you’re using to play back the synth is accidentally run at 48K instead of 44.1K?"

Oct 31, 2007 08:52 pm That was already mentioned above, there are many saying this is just an excuse made to confuse people.

Oct 31, 2007 10:21 pm Ah, your right. I don't know how I missed that one. Sorry.
Nov 04, 2007 09:42 pm The big microphone thing is as bout as stupid a display that I can remember ever seeing anyone do onstage.
Can you make yourself look like a bigger romper room moron?
What a shame!
