Ticket Price Rant

Holy ****! $22.00 to sit in the left field bleachers at the Metrodome! It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that I used to sit in the SUNNY left field bleachers of old Met Stadium for $2.50. How does anyone afford to take their family to a ball game anymore? $4.75 for a hot dog? $5.00 for a glass of pop?

Give me a break!

pfffft.

Wait until the new stadium is done, those prices will seem mild.

It's stupid...orgs like Ticketmaster should be put in jail for extortion. Ticket fees, handling fees, service fees, pre-order fees, fees to handle the handling fee...

Man...if there was ever a legal organized crime ring, ticket handlers are them.

I have, reluctantly, vowed to stop supporting professional sports by buying tickets and gear and crap...I will watch the games on TV, but that's it. The thugs they support, the prices they charge, and the taxes they add on to fund the support.

**** 'em.

I will, however take them to minor league games and things like that who generally have players that enjoy playing and appreciate their fans.

Still, nothing beats a few little grade school kids out knocking each other around...

How about this:

I just looked up tickets to go see M. Ward open up for Norah Jones here in Kansas City.

Ticket: $49.00
Building Facility Charge (wtf is that?): $1.00
TicketMaster sodomy charge: $9.75

Then there'll probablly be tax on top of that. So its looking like its going to be $130 for my wife and I to go see a concert. Plus gas. Plus drinks.

Pfffft. I went and saw My Brightest Diamond open up for The Decemberists and it was only $25 per person. Norah Jones damn well better be performing naked if she's going get over $65 per ticket from me!

The last time I went and saw the Dave Matthews band, tickets were over $65 apiece. These major-label shows are ridiculously overpriced.

Not sure but it sounds like a bargain to me. I just paid $120 each to see Roger Waters and a little over $100 to the the Blue Man Group. That being said, Ticketmaster rips us off here too.

I just spent $100 to get rained out at the Richmond Nascar race this weekend. They re-ran it on Sunday but after spending 2 hours in traffic to park and 2 hours trying to leave the parking lot, I was finished and didn't go back.

Wow, you wouldn't catch me dead paying that kind of money for a single admission to a concert, sporting event, or any kind of gathering.

For that kind of money I could cater a party at my house and have everybody I know over, sit comfortably in my climate-controlled living room on my plush furniture, and watch it on TV!

I can't think of a single artist who I'd consider worth a $120 ticket. Maybe I'd pay that kind of scratch for a festival like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Pitchfork, Bonnaroo, etc. Then it breaks down to a few dollars per band.

I've been going to concerts all my life and I'm not happy about the price I have to pay but I will treat myself a few times a year. I can't imagine my life without concerts.

Yep, I saw Frank Zappa with Alice Cooper opening in 72 for $2.50 advance price. Not frigin Ticket Master back then. These days you can't even get into a bar with a local band playing for that price. And I think a huge *** beer was like $0.50 back then, and they brought it to you.

most I ever paid for a ticket is $20... for Supertones, Five Iron Frenzy, and W's.

Most expensive show I went to though was DC Talk and Amy Grant (who went though like 4 guitars because she kept breaking strings) I think it was $40...but my roommate won tickets...

I don't go to shows at all anymore... I have no life... #sigh#

I don't go to shows much any more. I used to all the time, but the last few years it's just been when some cool/special/unique comes through town.

Five Iron Frenzy was/is an unusual band, fun to watch, the Supertones I could just never get in to...just not my style, but damn, the kids loved it.

yeah, i've got roughly 100 shows under my belt all between the ages of 14-25...i was a big concert junkie in highschool...but the loud SPL's, dickheads in the crowd (either fighting or beein' plain rude), general poor acoustics and the heat/sweat just made the whole thing not worth it. i've seen most of the bands that i really love and i'd rather catch a local band in a bar for 5 bucks....i was always a backstage seeker...i'd sneek all back behind the venue to meet ppl. once i was in the tour-bus parking area lookin' for Les Claypool and i stumbled on Rob Zombie and his drummer so i kicked it with them and shared a bottle of JD. that was pretty damn cool for a kid in music school. i've also met Jonathan Davis (korn) back when they were promoting their first album. ICP really are a coupple of idiot ******** and i actually left them. but the wierdest one (and this has nothing to do with concerts) was taking Mark Collie home to my house to jam....he was at my bar and i had no idea who he was until the next day, i got his number though.

Mark Collie as in the Country singer? I used to love his stuff. A little bit outside of the mainstream, yet accessible enough. That'd be cool jammin with him.

Sweet! I don't remember seeing him in any movies, but I'd probably recognize all of his chart-toppers!

yeah he does more movies now than music....he's the guy in Punisher in the scene in the diner where he walks in with an acoustic guitar and sings some dark song about the main character dying and his 'big line' is "i wrote that just for you"...but i'm not sure what else he's in, i'm sure you can google it.

yeah he was totaly cool with me, i got to pick his brain on all kinds of stuff, and i think the fact that i wasn't starstruck made him comfortable...he crashed on my couch! i wish i could recall some of our conversation, but we were drinkin' pretty heavy that night. i'm just glad i had an acoustic guitar layin' around for him, because he didn't like my fretless bass all that much.
