Ummmmm, who says it's a church thing? Car dealers are closed on Sundays too, matter of fact lots of businesses are...(at least here)...who says you can't drink, you just can't buy. It's federal and/or state control of alchohol...you can be pissed, but be pissed at the right people.

Oh, and where you are from I can almost promise you won't get into office on that platform ;-)

I've wondered about this one re: buying spirits on Christmas.

Seems that people that want to sit home and drink on Christmas should have the right. I can see that all businesses are closed, that's common sense, but I'm sure there's some Arabs, that don't believe in Christmas, that would sell spirits to some other people, that don't celebrate Christmas.

That's true, but it's still not saying it's a church thing, hell, every couple sundays I drink a shot of wine AT church on Sundays...

it just seems to me you may be misdirecting your rage...not saying for sure, just saying it's a possibility.

And again, pjk, it's not the drinking, it's the buying and selling.

I don't know, but I do know to some degree they differ from state to state, that's why I said I am not sure, but to immediately target the church when it may or may not be the reason is a bit unfair of a conclusion to jump to. Sunday is not the sabbath for all churches and religions, tho the bulk of Christian churches it is.

I also suggest if you can't plan more than one day ahead of time, well, I suggest you look at your personal priorities, budgeting and scheduling practices ;-)

Why the need to be pissed anyway, it HARDLY seems like an issue worthy of such rage.

i don't think i'm misguiding anything here...

i'm gonna do some more investagating.

im angry because this IS a faith based LAW...it's god telling the state to tell me NO.

OK, it's religious based in your state, or according to this article, that's fine, but I would still suggest your political activism would be better targeted toward an issue that actually matters.

It is interesting though, I can easily see how it could logically be tied to the church, given it is commonly the sabbath, but it seems like a completely frivolous waste of time when you could lend your time and effort to actually helping causes that help people...

Think about it WYD, while I think you political activism and rage are kinda cool to see happening, isn't there better things than protesting "Let me buy beer on Sunday!"...personally, when I see silly protests like that I have to laugh at them...just like I laughed at my radical Christian friends when they went to Oz Fest to protest and try to convert people...

Some people just spend their time behind such relatively minor causes...

IMHO.

yeah, it just buggs me, and this post is the closest thing to 'activism' i've ever done about it...i'm just makin' a point that i feel these laws are just as silly as our local law that is STILL on the books that women can't wear blue on certain days of the week or time of the year....shitty crap laws that need to be killed.

Oh, OK, if you want to get into stupid laws, don't eat peanuts in church is a funny read...mens and women underwear can't hang on the same line of the clothesline...all that funny stuff.

I would bet the cost to remove such laws from the books would be insane!

And not trying to mock your choice of causes or anything WYD, just asking you to step back and look at the big picture...

there have always been outsdated laws in the lawbooks of every country, like here, black taxis (hansom cabs) are all illegal because they don't carry hay in the back. hansom cabs used to be horsedrawn.

mostly the law over here (although somewhat relaxed now) was to keep the sunday special, to be the day NO-ONE worked, enabling it to be a family orientated day.

if you need to buy booze before midday on a sunday, then, as a consciencous drunk, you should still be drunk frmo the night before.

and you can alwasy find meths inthe garage.

mind you we can buy booze at 18 so ner ner ner ner nerrr nerrrrr :P

There used to be no drinks sold in Wales on Sundays which would crack you up if you didn't remember especially on holiday.Even the pubs were closed. If you did find somewhere open, the locals would all talk Welsh so you wondered why you bothered to go in.

To me, faith determines politics, I believe something is right or wrong or good or bad. I don't think pastors should be preaching politics... but I should have stong enough ethics to decide for myself if gambling, smoking, drinking, etc. is good or bad to the community as a whole.

##Stupid Laws##

in my nearby town (New Albany, OH) : and all of these ARE enforced.

child playsets cannot be viewable from the road

garage doors cannot be viewable from the road

garage doors must have either arborvite or hemlock as the view blocking screen... when planted they must be 6ft tall and touching... and requires zoning inspection.

the sidewalks are for residents only. (not enorced - but posted)

white christmas lights only

we have a 'town font' that all signs must use

garbage bags must be in cans on the side of the road on trashday... loose bags will be collected but zoning may send a fine.

trash is the property of the city, dumpster diving is therefor larceny of city property.

it is illegal to park semitrucks with trailers within city limits overnight... thats specifically aimed at my neightbor ...new as of this year...
