Well I just finished up another and possibly my last cover for awhile. This tune is an old Larry Williams song that was covered by The Beatles as well as many other artists. It's pure Rock n' Roll and I decided I was gonna rock this as much as I possibly could, hope I succeeded. :)
Hope you enjoy and I'd appreciate any comments anyone cares to give. I'd really like opinions on the mix. I have about 4 different ones and I nor my wife could decide on which was the best.
Anywho here's the link, be sure to crank it! LOL

Oct 21, 2005 11:42 am i'm really diggin' the harmonies....perfectly mixed, they're not distracting, and it definately reminds me of the beatles...holy crap i'm hearing a bass!!! not much tone (which suits the mix) but i'm listening on 1" speakers! excellent translation. the ride cymbal is a bit brash (then again it IS rock), i'd do a narrow cut between 4 and 10k.....it won't take much, just a teeny tiny bit...
wow i wasn't diggin' the drum machine sound, but then the ending, came and that was some good stuff!! reminded me of Poison...
i think your vocals are my fav part of the mix....did you sing both parts? (i'm assuming so)
cheers

Have you been dipping into the adrenachrome again ? hee hee
Oct 21, 2005 01:54 pm I know the version by the Beatles and Zebra...
this is faithful to the song...as parts of it remind me of both versions...
I love how you did the drums...perfect for this tune...fits the time period of when it was written.
The music is executed very well...and you sure are rockin with the vox...nice harmonies...
nice job with this...it was very fun to listen to.

Oct 21, 2005 04:00 pm Thanks for the comments WYD! The ride cymbal I agree is a bit to up front I've been trying to lower without messing up the snare & crash I'll try your suggestion, I'm still not totally happy with the drum sound in general. I had a better sound goin in another mix but they were a little too low in mix. Yep I sang all the parts. :)

Oct 21, 2005 04:02 pm Thanks Rasmuth. I wanted to stay pretty true to The Beatles version only rocked up more guitar wise. Haven't heard Zebra's version I'll have to go searching around for that and give it listen.
Thanks again!
Dan
Oct 21, 2005 04:11 pm ahhh if you can't isolate the ride, then i wouldn't bother with that eq....cuz yeah, that'll just take away from the snare and other cymbals......
righty-oh man!

Listening to the song for the first time right now. This thing rocks! Your guitar playing and drumming is outstanding. Vocals are good. (Double-tracked or delay?) I will say that lacks your usual slathering of background vocals...that would only add to the awesomeness of the song.
Guitar solo rocks!
Another winner...

Oct 21, 2005 09:12 pm Thanks Jim! Vocals on this one are Triple tracked LOL, though the 3rd vocal is at like -18dB so you don't hear much of it. I've been thinking about adding some background vocals, and may do that over the weekend. Thanks for the kind words on the drumming and guitaring! I really suprised myself that I could even do the drums since the song is at 160bpm. :D

Oct 23, 2005 05:43 pm OD, once again you did a great job witha great tune. This one would go over great in a bar full of peeps my age for sure. And others as well I am sure. Nice guitar playing, got a real old sound but made it fresh, the guitars I mean. I like the ringing ride cymbal, it fits pretty well, doesnt really distract at all in my book. At least on my rig it sounds like it fits. Nice rockin tune indeed, and your voice fits it very well. The harmony was great as previously stated.
Make sure and post if ya change the vox, I'd be curious how it turns out.

Oct 23, 2005 08:23 pm Thanks Noize! I was working on a new song when I just got the bug to do some pure old school rock n' roll and decided to do this one. I had more fun doing this than just about any song I've done. The ride cymbal is key to this kind of song and hitting that perfect balance is tough, but I think I got it pretty close from the different systems I tested the song on, glad you found it about right as well :) I found an even better cymbal to use but until I get a way to do easily do midi with AA (or get Sonar), I'd have to redo the whole drum part so I'll probably just leave it.
I'll post an update if I change the vox on it, thanks again for the kind words!

Jan 15, 2006 05:02 am Sounds great! I like the guitars on it.
I've never heard the original before, only Brian May's version. But it's a great song

This kicks ***! It reminds me of the version in the movie Backbeat (about the Beatles for those who havent seen it which was recorded by a super band !!)...
Anyhow, this is top. Guitars rock, drums sound SPOT ON to me...basss is right for the piece and a nice guitar solo.
That whole mix/song sounds good to me...in fact its just the way I would have "Hoped" To do it myself if I were doing it..>FULL ON ROCK MAN!
Again, its top notch as per usual. By the way, I cant hear that stuff going on with the cymbals etc...minimal flatter vocals than your usual stuff (I mean flat as in less fx and harmonies) NOT flat in tone...its in key for sure, just to make that clear!
So aye - BIG thumbs up from me dude!
Coco.
Jan 15, 2006 11:28 am This IS really ROCKIN' dude! I think it's very faithful to the original, other than a little harder, which I can totally appreciate. Seems like the upper mids could be brought out more and more bass. Really, really cool, enjoyed it tremendously!

Jan 27, 2006 11:52 pm Glad you found it Tad! :D Thanks for the good words on the vox, I really tried to this one without worrying about the neighbors hearing me (and I'm sure they did LOL) And yep I don't think I've written any songs with this style of vocal, not yet anyway, you never know... ;)

Jan 28, 2006 07:18 pm This ROCKS! Very live sounding (that's a good thing). Guitars are fabulous. Very rock'n'roll. I disagree that the bass isn't present. It's spot on.
Great stuff!

Jan 29, 2006 03:43 pm I kept missing this one, finally DL it at home (worth the dialup dl).
Very nice. Good gits, and voice. You voice lends well to this type of song. You kinda got the John Lennon sound going.
I can hear the bass fine on my spks here at home, so it seems good to me.
Again, Kickity-butt tune. Top job!
