T.O. already made headlines for being a jerk...haven't heard from Randy Moss yet though...

Anyone interested in commish-ing a fantasy football league for HRC peeps?

I would if I hadn't already created a league of my own for some friends, family, and coworkers.

FYI, Yahoo has free leagues, even if you create one yourself. I think it's pretty hands-off after the initial creation, so if anybody does want to create one, it shouldn't be much of a burden. This'll be my first year as a commisioner, so I can't say for sure but it doesn't look like any more work than just running a team

Heck, if nobody else jumps on it I might create one here in a couple of weeks and see if we can get a league full.

ah, I got tickets to tonights preseason game, I love preseason, ya get to see all the prospects play, which in regular season rarely happens

We're playing KC Chiefs...hey, TadPui, ain't that your team? Vikes and KC always have ugly preseason and training camp scrimmages...

Yeah, we decided to forego the scrimmage this season since we're playing in the preseason. I'll be there with bells on watching every play!

Ooh, the Chiefs are going to be a force to reckon with this year!

The Vikes made some interesting offseason moves. From a mirror image of the Chiefs (top-notch aireal offense with a weak defense), they're supposed to be a grind-it-out ground team with a stiff defense this year. I wonder if they can pull off a switch like that in a single year?

Hey, how many pro wrestlers did the Vikes invite to camp this year? :-P

I was bummed to see Brock didn't come back, I saw the training camp last year and he did well, looked to have promise...

I am excited for this year, the VIkes did some good things during the off season.

The reporter for kcchiefs.com was writing about that camp scrimmage last year, and you could tell that he had no respect for that guy. The term "no concept for the game of football" was thrown around a few times, as well as describing his practicing as "running around" and not "playing". I just figured that he was a total knob, but that's reporter spin for ya.

I think that we're both going to be happy campers this year...both teams are poised for greatness.

Yeah, I think both teams should do good this year, statistically speaking, but the Vikes always kick me in the nuts, that's the Vikings way...I'm used to it.

I'm just glad Daunte can spend time reading defenses and concentrating on the game instead of having to spend that time reading the mood of his #1 reciever...Randy Moss was a MASSIVE addition by subtraction...

Regarding Brock, I bet the reporter was just pissed cuz Brock TOTALLY manhandled a couple linemen for KC with apprarantly little effort.

Watched the Packers beat the Chargers the other night...kind of an uneventful game in the crappy weather conditions.

I fear that the string of three consecutive NFC Central championships may be coming to an end! We lost our O-Line and one of our best D-backs. At least the Vikes don't have Moss anymore!

I was at the Vikings/Chiefs game, it was good, the Vikings still have a lousy run defense around the ends but the pass defense looked good. Offense, as expected, looked quite good including the second string...3rd and lower got kinda shakey.

I am sure a couple people lost their jobs last night...including one of KC's field goal kickers...hell, I could hit a 28 yarder.

lol, he should fit in nicely with the raiders, but isnt al davis forgetting something dont you need a quarterback that can throw to be able to use a good receiver?

im sick of the nfl all these holdouts not just TO, i dont understand how you can sign a contract then request more money before the contract is up? i think the NFL needs to start cracking down on players, if you hold out at all even one day, your gone for the season without pay! do it again and your gone from the NFL!!!

Yeah, I agree with the holdout thing...I think my next contract I'll stop in the middle and demand more money...see how long I am working...

hehehe, when the Raiders took Moss I was wondering what the hell they were thinking, not really a deep-ball thrower on the Raiders...few people can throw a ball as deep as Culpepper...with any accuracy anyway.

I dunno, Collins has a very strong arm. They wanted to play a vertical passing game last year, but the only receiver that they had that was capable of playing in that type of system was always double-covered. I think that Moss will thrive in the Raiders' system. You can't always have Porter and Moss double covered. All Collins needs is an offensive line that can keep him protected long enough for anybody to get downfield. Sure as hell didn't get that in NY.

Bad thing is that now my Chiefs' 31st ranked passing D has to cover Moss twice per year now. And Jerry Rice is in Denver now so we get to deal with him twice per year too. And Antonio Gates and L. Tomlinson in San Diego...sucks that the best receiving back and end in the game are in our division also. We need to be in a division with Arizona and San Fransisco for our D to look good.

Don't they though? Priest ran 4 runs for 44 yards in our first preseason game. 11 yards per carry? I think that'll do.

I'm gonna have Burleson on my fantasy team. I think he'll have a huge year with Moss gone. He's gonna be the man in Minne until that draft pick learns the ropes.

Yep, Burleson is a superstar waiting in the wings...but don't forget about Wiggins and Kleinsaucer...if Kleinsaucer can stay healthy, thats a tight-end tandem that is up there with the best in the league...Marcus Robinson...jeez, still plenty of pass threats to go around...which is good, team don't have to worry about only Moss now...

Priest is great, but he only ran good against the Vikings linebackers, don't be too impressed yet...linebackers are still the weekness for the Vikes, running around the edges...but they'll get it together, it's a very new defense, lotta talent, just gotta learn to gel.

Napolean Harris better get it together.

man, someone had to make fun of the niners. boooo!

Oh well, we can't possibly be as bad as last year. Maybe it's just me, but I still get confused by the realignment they did a couple years ago. I can't get used to playing the seahawks twice a year...

Yeah, they were in the AFC West with us, so WE used to have to play them twice per year also.

Now, if I can't make fun of the basement of the league, then who can I make fun of? :-)

On the bright side, they've got nowhere to go but up!

pittsburgh won against the eagles. pitt had four qb's in, so i guess i like preseason too. i was impressed with all four of them. maddox looked pretty good. ben seemed fine. both teams seemed to play pretty well. i cant really tell who played the better game.

dB, The problem with having more than 4 teams in a division is that you need to have an equal amount of teams in each division and you need to play each of them twice.
You also want to be able to play games outside of your division or else it starts to look like a bunch of seperate leagues until the playoffs.
I think the current system is outstanding, in previous years you had certain teams going very long periods of time before playing each other.
Right now every team plays every other team every 4 years.

I understand the reasoning behind it, I think it's lame though, they could also play more than 16 games in a season...

yeah, but the seahawks were awful when you guys had to play them twice. Now they're a little better than decent...

for the league, how many people do you have signed up already. I guess I'm down, but I'm just concerned it's going to take up too much time. If I can minimize the amount of time I spend on it, I'm down to play.

only three people so far...it actually doesn't have to take much time at all, just pick a lineup each week...you can get insane about it and make it your life, but you don't have to...

anyone want to write up a short explanation of the bare minimum we need to know in order to play?

All right!! Five teams and counting! There's a four-team minimum, but I'd like to get at least ten!

Fortymile: There isn't really anything you NEED to know. Even if you only casually follow the game (like me) or if you only follow one team (like me) you still can have fun playing. You basically get a team assigned to you via an automated draft. Them you can talk smack and try to trade for your favorite players (but only if you want to). Then you set your starting lineup each week (unless you want to keep it the same as the previous week) and then you earn points based on the performance of the players in your "starting lineup".

C'mon everybody, what do you say?

Yeah...I'm afraid that the Packers are going to suck this year too! But that won't stop me from proudly wearing the Green and Gold to work on Mondays!

Yeah...let's get some more of you folks signed up! You don't even have to know anything about football. Casual fans (like me) can enjoy fantasy football too.

Hey Im in. Whens the draft?

Edit: Jim, you said it was an automatic draft. Isn't there a way to pick your pick your players live?

Czar of Cheese
Member

We could do a live draft, but the likelihood of everybody being around their computers at the same time is marginal at best. Particularly given the potential time zone differences..

I think that an automated draft will be OK...then we can just make trades to get the players we want...or stick with what you get.

Make sense?

Woo-hoo! We're up to six teams! Let's get at least four more, and then we'll do the draft.

Josh...that must be you that signed up...good to have a fellow cheesehead on board! We got 'em outnumbered!

Yeah, automated is cool with me, we can always edit or order of draft in the preferences, so it should be OK...it's not like we have choice with the automated draft.

All right, let the festivities begin! I was going to join NFL.com for a 2nd league, but I think that this will be much more fun.

Say, I've still got 2 spots open in my league, so if any of you feel ambitious enough to run a second team, let me know and I can send you an invite.

Good luck!
