Hi there HRCers, just like to say thanks to Savant for the info he provided last week!

I need some help with my set up I'm kinda a newbie when it comes to the computer side of recording music so take it easy with me!

I am basically having problems syncing my whole system and wondered if anyone could sugget which is the best way. The reason for my concern is that Cubase misses beats while recording and playback. I have also noticed that when I record my Guitar going through my Behringer V-amp via digital cable to my comp interface that I can hear pops, which is v annoying. So Can anyone help with;

a) Syncing my whole system (Cubase SX, EMU 1212m interface, Behringer V-amp all go up to 96khz) which is the best way?

b) How to stop the poping from my V-amp digital connection to EMU 1212m interface?

Thanks everyone for your help, very much appreciated!

make sure your cubase project and v-amp are set to the same sample rate (i'd go 44.1, or 48khz)...as for the missing beats, i'm afraid i can't help ya much there....maybe buffer settings?

Does the V-Amp do digital (S/PDIF)? Does it do 96k? Or is it midi? Lack of sync is one way to get pops, computer system resource conflicts is another... Can you record clean audio thru your 1212?

Edit: sprelling - again!

Hi

Yes the V-amp does have digital SPDIF out, I have got it connected that way at the moment. It does also support up to 96khz. The V-amp does also have MIDI in and thru, can I use this to keep things in time maybe?? bit out of my league unfortunately!

I have recorded audio fine through the 1212m with no problems at all on the cubase side of things but as soon as I tried to use the digital connection I start to get pops and everything starts to jitter.

Cheers for the help!

i was always under the impression that 96khz was overkill as most commercial cds are only 44.1khz

Yeah, but if you want to get into hi-res audio such as for DVD audio or film scoring 96k is necessary, also, it's nice to have as hi-res of a source as possible.

I scan images at 200 dpi even tho the web only uses 72dpi...know what I mean?

rambo_79, I thought S/PDIF carried the sync in the signal, but I'm not certain, and I've never experimented with it. I've twiddled with ADAT into my 1820M and I would think it'd be similar... perhaps someone can straighten you out here shortly, but in the meantime, have you hooked-up the V-Amp to the 1212M with a high-quality S/PDIF cable (a regular RCA stereo-type cable can't carry the signal cleanly)? Also, when doing the ADAT, I used the external device as master, feeding the 1820M. To do that, after the "cable" was connected, I turned on the tape deck (Alesis ADAT), set to "Master". Then I turned on the computer and set PatchMix to "Slave" ("External" clock). I started the tape deck, then I started Cubase and it worked. I've never tried it with the 1820M as Master yet. (I don't have easy access to the Alesis for playtime...)
