Pissed off at society today...

I was listening to the local morning show this morning talking about all the gas station drives offs and stuff since the prices have gotten so high.

One dude got fed up with the drive offs and started approaching people...a couple days ago he had a hammer in his hand and ran after a drive off, hitting the car with a hammer, HE was arrested for damaging the theif's car.

Yesterday he tried to stop another, jumped on the car hood, the kid kept driving, thru the guy off the car, he hit his head and is in the hospital in serious condition. One lady said at that gass station she was harrassed once by some other person filling up and he came out to help...this was a good guy just fed up with getting ripped off.

Very sad.

A listener from a local station called in and said that they lose $9,000 a month from drive offs...

Pisses me off. I mean, the gass prices suck and all, but does stealing from our own really help? No...the best we can do not drive as much, buy more economical cars and try to do our best to decrease foreign dependancy.

ARgh, sorry, I had to vent, that story just has me pissed off.

'round the detroit area, you always had to pay first. Seems like a quick way to fix that problem.

You get used to it pretty quick, but it is an inconvenience.

yeah, thats what many are starting to do here as well...just another sign that Minneapolis is kind of accepting the fact they are becoming a "big city" in many ways...

A few months ago in Vancouver, a gas station attendant tried to stop a guy from running off. The guy ran over the attendant and he was dragged under his car for 2 miles. He died in hospital. All this for a tank of gas. Sure is a bunch of sick MF's out there.

I did a drive off on accident about a week ago. I went into the station, handed the guy 5 bucks and asked it to put it on the pump I was in, went out and put the pump in the tank and let it go, then went back in to use the restroom, then got in my car and left. When I got home I realized I had a full tank. Now luckily for me, the gas station guys and I are pretty cool with each other, what with me going in every night at about 3am for something to eat and a pack of smokes, so I just went back and explained what happened. Told the guy I wouldn't have the money to pay him back until th next monday and because he saw me every night and trusted me he let me go. First thing monday morning I got the money, went back and handed him the cash. he was actually really surprised that I paid him back.

But yeah, in Houston it's pretty impossible to pump without paying, this was just a freak accident.

while I don't think stealing is right I can see why some people would do it. I mean hell, we're paying like 3 bucks this month for the SAME EXACT GAS we paid 2 bucks for last month... only thing that changed are politics.

the detroit area stations could be set to the $$$ amount, so you couldn't go over. It's cool the guy was decent though.

On my travels across the country this summer, I've found that most stations are pre-pay now.

i've worked in gas stations in atlanta and here in tennessee, and the drive off 'procedure' was always to try to get the plates, and description of the car....the funny thing is, they never got taken to court or whatever, basically the company ate the loss, until it became a repete offender.

now those were at large chain stores, now if this was a small business, i can see reason for ppl to do crazy stuff to stop it, because it is planned and understood that it WILL happen, and most of the time ya can't do much about it.

oil is the new coal, what will be the next oil?

pjk - yeah they could set it here too so you can't go over, but for some reason the pump didn't set correctly

from what I heard this morning, the police can't legally do anything, since they authorized the pump, it is the stores fault, not the theif...

i used to work at a gas station about a month ago and i worked there for almost a year...we just used to get the license plate numbers and give them to police officers that would come in for coffee and whatnot...they'd get the info...end up calling them and before citing them gave them a chance to come in and pay...one of the kids that worked at the station used to steal gas all the time before his shift was over...but we caught him...and fired him....

In ohio we atleast claim to revoke your drivers license on the first offence...which is tougher than for DUI

you guys are lucky!

over there its something like 27.5 pence per litre, here its about 83 pence! theres about 4 litres to the US gallon.... so where you pay a little over a £1 per gallon, we end up paying £3.20!!!

The situation here in Vancouver is pretty bad as well. Right now we pay about 1.05/ltr CDN. which is about $3.20/gal US.

Sucks everywhere I guess.
