now there's a case for sterilization

I'd say it's worse, hopefully this infant will be taken care of outside the biological family, so at least she'll have a fair chance of growing up normal.

Bad part is there's lots of people like this around, going un-noticed.

Yeah, it's sad to see what is going on sometimes...and this lady is the mother of 7 other kids! Jebus! WTF?

There has to be some sort of sterilization/castration laws passed for situations like stupid people like this lady, pedophiles and other such leechegs on society. She has the babies, IF they get lucky enough to be taken away, then these kids are raised on our nickle...orphanages and foster care has it's share of problems too...

DAMNIT, where is personal accountability...what happened to that?

Yikes, she got thrown in the Washington county jail...that's my home county! That jail is in my home town too.

Honestly, after growing up around there, I really don't doubt the story at all. People just aren't taught by their parents to have any ambition at all, and if they can get by with nothing more than beer and cigarettes, then they will do that until the day they die.

these stories make it hard for me to be an idealist

Well, Loki, there is one key flaw to the idealist mentality (which at late teens/early twenties I was as well). That is, that the idealist way of thinking requires that all persons involved in the the ideal has integrity, has common sense and actually cares about anything but themselves.

It's plainly obvious from day-to-day life that there are simply too many people that just friggin suck, and make idealism a completely unattainable goal.

In the idealistic world terrorists could be reasoned with, people would raise their children to be moral people, people wouldn't steal and hurt each other...ah, what a beautiful place.

As Winston Churchill once said: "Any 20 year-old who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, and any 40 year-old who isn't a conservative doesn't have a brain."

The worst part about it is that these people that SUCK are reproducing! This summer I am teaching six weeks of a pre-kindergarten summer school program. I am left with only one question: How does a kid get that messed up by the time he is FIVE YEARS OLD?!?!?!

I've pondered that before: the more responsible people will control themselves, and can also afford birth control, while people who don't care, and aren't responsible at ALL, are popping out puppies like chicklets.

Makes me think that, a short few hundred years ago, members of families would die much more often, and families that weren't keeping up their health and environment were much more susceptable to disease and death. This seemed that nature was keeping check on it's own, like what's been stated before.

Now-a-days, with technology giving longer life, and socialistic policies reward victim-like behavior, the lack-a-dazickles are reproducing and spreading faster than responsible society is.

Makes for a scary picture of our future.
