My first "on location" recording session

We all hit these little milestones in our home recording hobby, and its always a lot of fun for me whenever I do something that I've never done before.

Well, this past weekend I went to visit a friend of mine to do some recording at his home in Tulsa. He lives in a musician's paradise: out in the country, with a climate-controlled garage full of every rock and roll instrument and gear imaginable.

We got all set up on Friday night, got a couple of sound checks in before we were too intoxicated and tired to do any more. After a great greasy Eggbert's breakfast, we got down to business and managed to get drums for 2 tracks, and some odds and ends for those same 2 tracks. I'm really looking forward to digging in to the mixing and the rest of the tracking for these songs.

I learned a WHOLE lot during this session, being my first time to track drums, my first time to track electric guitar with both a dynamic and condensor, first time to record harmonica, and also my first time to work with another musician during the recording process...I'm usually the lone ranger in my home hobby studio.

I must say that I'm VERY proud of my gear. It all performed wonderfully, and I got lots of compliments on how efficient and flexible my setup is. And I have to thank all of you here for helping me to decide upon and find the right gear that obviously works very well for me!

And my LP into my Traynor YCV80 cranked up sounded so good that everybody that heard it stopped to compliment it :)

Oh well, I just had to share my elation.

That's great Tadpui... sounds like you got alot accomplished . Not working the nightshift anymore, I take it... me niether . Nice one !

Got'ta agree with you on the HRC-induced knowledge being an incredible asset to the choosing of gear, and the tweaking of it . I've made ALOT of poor gear buying decisions in the past, and not one bad purchase since I've found this place . I still look at peoples gear lists, and listen to the results on their songs to try and get a grasp of what that gear has to do with their sound... it can be interesting at times, and a down-right sanity-saver as well .

Nice one Tadpui...nice one.

I had the same feelings when I recorded a band live for the first time (paid anyway). That was only a couple of weeks ago at a real big local venue and it was also a blast.

Aye, its great when you get to do stuff that is different with yer gear...in fact, its really great!

Congrats...post the results for us to hear!

Cheers

Hey thanks fellas. I'll surely post the results as I get them completed. It's slow going...I haven't been spending more than 1 or 2 hours at a time mixing down the takes, so its going to take a while. Plus, I still have to do several guitar parts and vocals so it's going to be a week or two at least.

But yes, I will back up everything!
